The New York Daily News is running an article in which New York Police commissioner Raymond Kelly expresses his outrage at the portrayal of the NYPD in Activision's controversial upcoming game, True Crime. The commissioner also stated his disappointment at the involvement of members of the NYPD in the development of the game. He believes that the game is disrespectful towards the police force and "it's done in extremely poor taste as well."
Retired NYPD Detective Bill Clark, who's working on the game with Activision is defending the game by saying critics
don't understand the game and "need to come to grips with the fact that it's based in
fantasy."
It's interesting to note that NYPD Blue, a highly popular TV series throughout the
90s and 00s, featured fifteen out of twenty-six members of
the cast nude throughout its multiple series. Was anyone led to believe that, because of NYPD Blue, at least 50% of
the real NYPD had seen each other naked? Likewise, will anyone change their opinion of the excellent police force that
is the NYPD because of a cliched game character in a violent fantasy game?
