A couple of days ago, we
posted an article discussing the
possibility of another chapter in the Mother series of games. There were two sets of clues – one that pointed at
Brownie Brown making the game, and another that revealed a countdown and a professor who look very similar to
Mother/Earthbound's very own Dr. Andonuts. The latest Famitsu has officially debunked the latter rumor, as
Marvelous games is actually working on a Nintendo DS game with Grasshopper, who had a hand or two in the making of
Killer 7.
DS-x2 has posted two scanned images from the magazine, which
reveal the Dr. Andonuts look-alike to be a key character in Marvelous' new game Contact. Looking at the
pictures, it seems the game is as stylish as any game with some degree of separation from Killer 7 – the top
screen looks very pixilated like an old-school SNES (or even NES) game, while the bottom features lush 3D visuals.
Earthbound sequel or not, I am looking forward to this game.
IGN has a brief summary of the storyline of the game, which involves the professor in the upper screen asking you to aid Cherry, a boy who reluctantly helps the professor find a series of "elements" for his spaceship. Cherry can use 7 different costumes in his quest, each with a different set of abilities.
The Mother rumor still stands, however, as Brownie Brown still has that secret project with the Mother series creator… I guess we now know the secret to one of Marvelous' internet countdowns. Contact will be released in Japan in February.
