MPH has released
a working 2.0 to 1.5 PSP Downgrader
(which may or may not have been based on an exploit discovered by Toc2rta). It reverts an updated PSP's firmware back
to the 1.5 version, which is a bit more amenable to running homebrew applications on, despite the successful work of
hackers in cracking the 2.0 update and
running something on
it.
This latest round of hacking hoopla doesn't appear to be some
downgrading rumor, either; even the folks at WAB are
acknowledging the cumulative work that's been completed, and they've certainly had their share of Downgraders that
didn't materialize. (Ex-WAB-member Yoshihiro may have been a fraud.) [UPDATE: It looks like Yoshihiro
may have made good on his old Downgrader promises after all by joining with the MPH team mentioned here as a part of
SonyxTeam. Thanks for the corrections and clarifications,
EdZ and
zsasz, and sorry about this whole business here,
Yoshihiro!]
[UPDATE (again): As it turns out, WAB's AloneTrio (and Toc2rta) may have been right about Yoshihiro after all. MPH has
never said Yoshihiro was involved with the Downgrader work; only SonyxTeam made that claim. Why, Yoshi, why?? Thanks
for the further update, Yellow Texan!]
At any rate, we should be able to link to a how-to guide for downgrading with nice colorful pictures within a few
hours. In the meantime, check the QJ Forums for the Definitive MPH Firmware Downgrade FAQ (linked
here) if you need technical guidance. As always,
hack your system at your own risk. (So don't fool around!)
[Thanks, Will, Alex, _Psycho, pspman3, Sandoval, Nick, Ron, and Abhinav]
