Is the PlayStation 3 losing development support?

Maybe some 3rd parties are feeling a little pressured to come up with content worthy of such a machine. The 360 is coming out first and this could be damaging just as the DS has hurt sales of the PSP (to a small degree). Alot of developers may choose the 360 b/c it isn't expected to have as "SUPERIOR GRAPHICS" as the PS3. But one thing we forget, the PS3 will sell very well in Japan unless it is WAY too high priced. Revolution making a come back????? Maybe but not if Nintendo cannot stop censoring everything and dumbing down titles to appeal more to kids. Yeah I said it and its true. Every RPG they have has kids for characters. They finally stepped it up with the new zelda but you'd think they would do that with all the games. I am not bashing, Just pointing out that they should have faith in the ESRB rating system. Maybe games will be sold via the internet more and more so maybe games rated adult could be sold o problem. have a little Fin faith int he ESRB rating system.

Who cares if it's out first? It's not even a finished console: If it doesn't have HD-DVD support, why do I care for Hi-def support? And since when was graphics important? I guess that is why Xbox sold less than a quarter of playstation 2.

The price is not okay considering that an Xbox lifespan is surely smaller than nintendo's and sony's. 4, 5 and 6 years respectively (if you don't believe me, consider all the last generations). Let alone the fact that it will cost you to get "Extra levels/guns/etc.".

Thanks 360), wi-fi enabled out of the box, support for all 3 hi-definition modes (As opposed to the only 2 for 360), plus able to play all the PS1 and PS2 library without an extra cost like "LIVE" or game downloading, and all the "Must have games" are there (God of War, Killzone, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy XIII, MGS4, etc.). The only "must have" in Xbox is Halo 3, and only if they get it right. With half-assed versions like perfect dark zero, who gives a shit?

As far as I know, the best games are still in revolution and playstation 3. And OTAM, if you are reading this, you always say you want new gameplay experiences, so why not get a Revolution? The Xbox games (at least most of the ones that come on release) seem to be mainly, if not all, sequels.

This is old news and has been covered on Beyond3D forums. Everybody is asking the fundamental question, who's leaving? Every major developer has shown support.

My my my, let someo say something negive about the PS3 and people ae ready to kill you. Somee mentioned that as log as the big houses stay with SONY they are cool. This is not the case. Consoles always need fresh innovative gmes to stay alive. You can see that many of EA, Square and onami games are getting tired. No Dynasty is forever. One or developers dropping Sony is nothing. However, if many more do it is cause for concern.

Well I can see some reasons to drop games off of the PS3 that are not going to be sure hits. And gamers go were the games are at so the developers decide what console dominates just like Square pushed Sony competely over their compition the devs of today can do the same if they feel that there is a better system to make their games on. However it seems that Devs are pretty much Online keen for the 360... making Online centric games for the Xbox 360 and focusing more on single player games on the PS3. That's just my observation and is not a fact or anything.

A system difficult to develop for can be detrimental. Just look at the N64. Nintendo MADE sony so popular with developers by scaring them away. Good thing the GameBoy has always been easy to make games on.

It all depends on how many more PS3s are sold than 360s. By simple virtue of selling more does not guarantee developers will want to develop on it. Developers are out for the most PROFIT. If a developer can spend half as much to develop a game on the 360 over the PS3 yet only take a 20% cut in sales, then the developer will take the 360 route even though the PS3 may have more straight line sales. Selling 10 million copies of a game on $20 million in cost isn't nearly as attractive as selling 8 million copies of the same title on $10 million in cost.

It all comes down to margins here. Developing on the PS3 will result in smaller margins (higher development costs, more expensive Blu-Ray disks, etc), so the PS3 is going to have to demolish the 360 to be able to convince developers that going their way is going to be beneficial. Unless the PS3 can pull around a 3-1 sales advantage of units, then they'll not be too attractive to develop games on.

Personally, I see it this way: the PlayStation 2 got the same shit when it was announced. It was hard to develop for. It had shitty tools. The Gamecube and especially the Xbox were far simpler to develop for, yet Sony still ended up with the vast majority of the market in their cold, clammy grasp.

Now this is the beginning of a new generation, obviously. Sony is even more arrogant than last time, and the complaints seem even louder. Couple that with the fact that Microsoft's Xbox brand has since proven itself in most markets and Nintendo's new box may be getting more critical attention and widespread optimism than even the Super Nintendo got prior to release.

If you take all of this into account (and hell, throw the PS3's expected $500+ pricetag in there, for good measure), then Sony could possibly be looking at quite a bit of trouble. I doubt they will fall horribly. The PS3 will not be a failure at the magnitude of the Saturn, Jaguar, or Virtual Boy. Hell, chances are great that it will still retain the top spot for Sony. Thing is, though, that the odds are already against the company going into this generation... and they're stacking even more hurdles in their own way with this shit.

In the exclusive department it seems like I have a choice between a developer fallen from grace, Rare, and companies that still make good games Capcom and Konami. I'm not saying Capcom and Konami aren't developing for 360 but Devil May Cry 4 and MGS4 are both exclusive. People that like Halo might like Halo 3, but the other two were boring... I don't see what would be different this time.

I don't know if the assertion that the Xbox proved itself in most markets in true. It avoided being last place in a few of them by a small margin compared the margin between itself and Sony. Oh and in one market it's a collosal failure. Last week a paltry 98 Xboxes were sold in all of Japan. To put that in perspectice that's less than the orginal model Game Boy Advance and the Gamecube sold 2,000 some.

PS3 will sell the most because of being the most powerful? Look at the Dreamcast... people waited for the PS2 because it was the successor to the playstation... not because it was technically superior. I'd like to see the PS2 try and run Shenmue.

Koei was supposed to have been a major source for this rumor. Now they are opening up a new studio dedicated to PS3 development.

Alright, i want everyone to go out and look at microsoft's games, do the graphics look like revamped pc games... yes?... well then... this isn't quite the 'next generation' of gaming now is it? the graphics are good, the games look good, the controller looks perfect really--- BUT! Now look a the PS3 screenshots and games... damn... look at the difference... AND YES YOU CAN'T DENY THE DIFFERENCE and that is now... and Sony won't launch for another how many months??? Oh so this basically means that PS3 games will be freakin' amazing by the time they launch and xbox will look like a really freaking nice gaming pc, but it still won't blow your mind when you're playing. microsoft has done just about everything it can do... it won't be a bad consol, xbox wasn't bad either.
sony will also support keyboard and mouse for playing not just type input like microsoft, a big plus for fps games. sony will have amazing titles and graphics that will totally blow xbox away -blueray- this is an ADVANCEMENT, don't settle for something less. but microsoft will still have a good consol on their hands, don't get me wrong. I suggest buying an xbox and playing around with it for a bit, then selling the crazy contraption before ps3 comes out.
