New film about life as a video game tester
Video game movies have always been less than stellar,
so why not attempt to make a movie about the people who love video games? It worked for War Games and The
Last Starfighter, but this movie does not seem to aspire to the same level of greatness.
Grandma's Boy (view the IMDB entry
here) is about a 37-year old game tester who gets kicked out of his apartment after his roommate spends all their
rent money on Taiwanese hookers and is forced to move in with his grandmother and her two friends – hilarity
ensues.
The movie is produced by Adam Sandler's company Happy Madison productions, and humor seen in the trailer is very much
consistent with most Adam Sandler comedies. And yes, all the gamers portrayed seem to embody every single nerd
stereotype imaginable. Take a gander at the
trailer and let us know what you
think.

Funny... Should read "formatted to fit your PSP".
Christopher7xii @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
heh, looks funny IMO. I'd see it just to see the mockery they make of gamers, even if it didn't make me chuckle from the trailer.
Lampbane @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Oh my god, it's everything that Jack Thompson says we are.
::shudder::
roachclip @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Looks good, they did say fillipeno (sp?) hookers though.
I will rent it..... when my wife goes down state.

what do I have to study in college to get started in that career?
HalcyonGT @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
This movie should have gone straight to video. I saw the trailer before Transporter 2. This has got to be the most God-awful film ever made.
Nintendo Gal @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Wow, it had a moment or two but just seems to be giving gamers a bad name imo.

Pass.
Dylan @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Yes, it was Filipino hookers and not Taiwanese.

NO!! NOT MONKEYS!! Monkeys are not funny anymore. Along with pirates, zombies and ninjas.
PickyPants @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Pirates are always funny.
This movie enrages me.
We need a movie made by a real gamer. Goddamn.
I need to lie down.
Gordon @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
That monkey! Damn, he looks just like this guy I know. And that dude with the shirt pulled up on his head ...I totally do that sometimes! Man this movie is eerie in how accurate it depicts my living room. If this movie has a climactic ending in a nuclear control room with an exciting game of pong between shirt over the head dude and the monkey, I'm totally going to see it in theaters AND buy the DVD.
Alkaiser @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Evil D:
I agree on the monkeys.
Pirates and ninja comedic options haven't been fully explored yet, and the genre of zombie humor is woefully untapped.
The worst thing about that trailer for me, as a gamer...is seeing the Ultimate Gaming Chair get more screen time.
That thing costs $500, or to put it in console terms, an Xbox, PS2, GameCube and Nintendo DS put together.
For an office chair with a controller glued to the handle.
LaughingTarget @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Well, on a positive note, it just very well may be better than Doom the movie.

Stereotypes! Yay!
Einhanderkiller @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
HeY! I sent this thing to you guys like (through that "send us a tip" link), over a week ago.
Ross Miller @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
You did? sh**, sorry dude; I'm-a go find the tip and then give ya some props, soon as I finish this recap article.
Azerael @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
I wonder if this movie contains fanboys squabbling on message boards.
Because that's what "real gamers" do, isn't it.
That was a rhetorical question.
Carbon43 @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
OMG ROFL LMFAO Clearly, for those of us who take ourselves too seriously, this movie will be highly offensive. For those of us who like a little self depracating satire every once in a while I think this will be gold. And please stop bashing this movie for being nonintellectual, of course its exoteric, thats THE POINT. I have heard that Sandler plays a fair amount of games so I'm sure he is well aware of the stereotypes being attached to us. Which is, after all, THE POINT, right?!? I havent liked everything he's done, but when he gets something right credit needs to be given where its due.

If you have not tried the Ultimate Game Chair then why knock it? It is getting great reviews and I hear the improvement on the next version will include controller ports so that you can use any controller from any platform (and USB for PC)I tried it at E3 and found it to be a great game chair!
Bob Tartan @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Evil D. - I don't know what you are talking about. This game chair is worth the price - I have one and it's awesome. Halo 2, Doom 3, Burnout are incredible in this game chair. The vibration motors are connected to the game so you feel the recoil of the guns. The sound is awesome too, especially since I have it connected to my receiver. You should definitely try it out. You won't go back.
