Xbox 360: new Madden 2006 screens
Gamers Report has posted three new screens of Madden 2006 for the Xbox 360. The new shots, which we hope
are in-game, show a little more promise than the disappointing selection that surfaced last month—but there is
something oddly stubby about the players. EA plans to showoff its next-gen Madden installment, along with
Need for Speed: Most Wanted, FIFA, NBA Live, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour later this
week at X05.
[Thanks, Alvin]

Well, EA has a miracle to pull out of it's hat. NOT!!!!
COBRASVT @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
TOO bad SEGA wont have an NFL license to do a game. :(
spoo @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
Looks great but a bit shiny.

It appears as though it's a 3:2 (non-wide screen) image that was mysteriously squashed down to a letterbox aspect ratio of 16:9. If you take the original image (640x320) and stretch it to 640x426 you'll put it in a 3:2 aspect ratio (standard TV size) and get an image where the players don't look stubby at all.
I for one think it looks much better than previous shots. Add in some nice lighting and weather and I think it might look quite impressive.

Wow, but the jury is still out given the latest screenshots of this game. Come on EA, give us something to drool over.
izzy @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM

Haven't all Madden games had this? Oh how I wish we had an NFL 2K6 to look forward to.

Didn't you know that graphics comes before gameplay? Due to the shortened development time and the amount of projects that the dev team are working on, the gameplay will suffer horribly.
Just remember back when the Xbox and PS2 first came out... Nothing says next-gen like crappy camera controls!

The Standard aspect ratio is 4:3 (1.33:1). 3:2 is the pulldown DVD players (and formerly studios themselves) have to do to make 24 frames of film into 30 frames of video. Too many ratios.

I don't know... I can't help but think that the 2K series would have released something that looked better. They seem have continued the Madden legacy of players that look cartoonish. They seem like are going for Shrek rather than for real life. It looks good, but I can imagine it looking better. I'm getting a 360, and I have been looking forward to Madden. I just hope the game shapes up okay. So far the graphics don't have me completely convinced. We'll see how everything turns out... I'm eagerly awaiting the release.
Matt @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
With every batch of screenshots, I'm left saying the same thing: It looks like donkey shit. I mean, where's the next-gen prowess? Where's the "photorealism"? Other 360 games look great, and have me drooling in anticipation. Not this pile, it looks like a current-gen title at best. And they're supposed to be releasing these shots to get us excited? All it's doing is saving me $59.99.
Inscent @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
The graphics are COMPLETELY on par with the current Xbox, not impressive in the least bit. :(
warcraft-gold @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
I wonder will this look better on PS3 or Xbox 360.
Matthew @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
izzy: you don't watch real football, do you? typically the arms of a lot of jerseys now are elastic so that it fits right around the bicep. The yellow you are seeing is of this fabric that goes from the shoulder pads to the skin and is held there by the elastic. At least, that's what it is in real life...
Omar @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
J: This game looks like my ____! It sucks, madden sucks, IF ESPN were on 360 it would a whole different thing. the truth is ea sports don't know how to make pologons.
bignerd @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
You guys are funny. Yeah, Madden sucks so bad that its the best selling sports game every year. Sega Sports 2K series makes such good games that they are still around...NOT! And even when they were around, they had to drop their prices to 20 bucks in order to compete with EA. If these are really in-game graphics, this is by FAR the best football game(graphically) ever released, at least until '07 is released.
CJ @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
C'mon Madden fans....you all have to admit that EA delivered a subpar version this time out. Take a look at 2k6 for 360 and tell me that Madden does not disappoint.
Neal Bauer @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
bignerd you are an idiot.
Your logic is that because Madden sells, it makes the game good?
With that logic, New Kids on the Block and Brittney Spears are better than Pearl Jam and Tool because of album sales.
The reason Madden is so wildly popular is because there are retards, like yourself, that are too busy listening to EA's bullshi+ generator instead of trusting their own eyes.
You really do have 'the right stuff' to be a Maddenite.

I have to shake my head at just imagining boomer's halftime show. Personally, I think ea got scared and bought the NFL liscense so that ESPN would help madden instead of competing with a greater game.
Bryan Blackman @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
The only reason Madden sells is because of name recognition. Espn and 2K had the better product, did not want to hose the consumer by charging $49.95, and so gave the gaming community a superior product for a little under half the price. EA sports got scared and inked an underhanded Bill Gates monopoly deal with the NFL. I for one have kept my 2K5 and will be playing that game for the next 5yrs on my 360--due to the hard work of the web site NFL2K5forever.com, where you can down load an updated roster and new cover for your 2K5 game. If EA had not inked the deal 2K would have buried the Madden franchise. Madden is a substandard, over priced game that sells because of name recognition.
A.S. @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've read Madden 2006 for x360 isn't the same thing as Next-gen... in which case, these screens should only be compared to their xbox/ps2/pc counterparts. If that's the case, then I'm looking forward to next-gen.
