Peter Jackson to executive produce Halo movie
According to an official news release, Universal & Fox have
announced that Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh will serve as executive producers for the upcoming Halo
feature film. The duo grabbed three
Academy Awards for the LOTR movies and is currently wrapping up work on the King Kong remake. This
marks the first time that Jackson and Walsh will be working together on a project that Jackson is not directing.
Halo will be shot in Wellington, New Zealand with production and post-production duties being handled by Jackson's Weta Digital Ltd., Weta Workshop Ltd., Stone Street Studios, and Park Road Post. Jackson commented, "As a gaming fan, I'm excited to bring Halo's premise, action, and settings to the screen with all the specificity and reality today's technology can provide." The director for this project will be announced shortly.

benderillo @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
im as happy as a little girl
Matt Hayes @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
We now can all breathe a sigh of relief that Uwe Boll will *not* be wrapping his inept little claws around this project.
Matt @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
I always thought Halo would translate well into a movie and this gives me some hope that it'll be worth watching.
Joystiq... whats the deal with the lack of X05 coverage? I understand if you're not in Amsterdam to cover the event, but you're not even keeping up via other sites or anything. I was hoping to turn to you guys, especially considering that most other sites are blocked at my job.
Gimbal @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
I think I peed a little.
I hope they can get an equally talented director on board.
Metalghosts @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
Wow....can we say the best game-to-movie translation ever! I know, that wouldn't be too difficult considering past attempts. But nonetheless, this is shaping up to be a sure-fire movie.
And ditto to post#3....I can't get to any other sites, and it's proving to be a bit of a downer that joystiq isn't on top of the X05 coverage.

WETA doing the special effects for Halo = Happy Happy Happy Happy Happy Happy
wizard @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
I'm hoping that Jackson decides to direct it after he finishes King Kong...
We are at least guaranteed that the movie will look good with WETA on it.
Matt @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
I've read similar stuff about the launch lineup, but I can't help but think... "that's it???". I heard Madden was going to be a launch title, in fact, I just went today to pre-order it because of that. Is that the complete list or is this just the latest news? If that's the complete list, paint me officially dissappointed.
EdZ @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
I TOLD you it was a movie announcement!
see: http://www.joystiq.com/entry/1234000857061438/#c490184
Anyway, the Halo movie just keeps looking up. WETA doing the effects is excellent news (though they're going to have a handful with this along with the Live Action Evangelion movie).
1337Thespian @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
Ok, NOW I'm interested.
jimmy @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
matt - i was going to comment on the list of games i posted, but it seems that my post was deleted. so F joystiq...
Metalghosts @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
Jimmy - thanks for posting (even if it has been deleted). I was able to catch it before Joystiq deleted....and let me just say that I am uber-excited about Mass Effect. An Xbox 360 exclusive Bioware trilogy? I'm lovin' it!
Again, thanks....that is if you get to read this! lol
jimmy @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
yeah, mass effect has me intrigued, but i gotta some some in-game screen caps or footage before i decide..
BlackYoshi @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
Finally a truly good video game movie? Something that brings a little more respect to the medium? A modern-day Alien? Oh, and Samuel L Jackson has to play Sgt Johnson, period. If you have a bad-ass african-american character, it has to be played by him. No questions asked.
Not Impressed (Dmitri) @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
I am looking forward to this movie. Not because it is based on Halo, but because it is based on a FPS game.
Call me crazy but I wouldn't buy any halo again. Just doesn't compare to the other stuff. IMO, btw.
SPOILER! MASTER CHIEF WILL BE PLAYED BY..... THE ROCK!!!!
roflmfao!!!! jk
MILES @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
Wow, I always thought that making a Halo Movie was a really bad idea.. but now.. Im not so sure that it is.
It actualy has a chance of being good!
Not Impressed (Dmitri) @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
John Woo pwns all! RAINBOW SIX BABY!!!!

Old news, yet great news.
SilverScyth @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
Ahhh, silly Dmitri, when will you stop your fanboyish ways?
Andrew Hsieh @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
You can't be serious.
This is amazing. Peter Jackson? 'nuff said.
Ryuukuro @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
I trust Peter as a fellow geek (and now one of the Geek Gods) to do a good producing job. But it still relies on a proper director. We need a solid action director who believes in story over style--unless their style is insanely exciting.
But I agree. This could be turning into the first quality video game movie.
Alex C @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
Finally Peter Jackson will be de director:

mocax @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
Jackson and Walsh will have creative input though. I think they can fire the director's ass if he ain't up to their standards.
I'm partial to Ice Cube being the Sergeant.... :P
braingasm @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
...and a script written by Alex Garland!! I suggest you all see 28 Days Later. Q U A L I T Y !! (Best of that genre by far IMO) Any speculation on the director? I would be cool if they could get Spielberg as he does good scifi but fat chance eh with the $$$ and new Raiders. My bet is Chistopher Nolan, or Ang Lee.
Batzarro @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
This is great news, for Halo fans, AND the rest of the gaming community. Why? Well, if the movie turns out well(And this REALLY raises the odds in it's favor) other Game-to-film projects may follow. Look at the Comics-to-film archetype... Where was it seven years ago?
David McBrayer @ Dec 18th 2005 10:00PM
I think if this movie is made, everything needs to resemble the current US Marines (with the exception of the suits currently in Halo). If anyone's on Earth, they need to wear standard issue Digital Camo uniforms.
