As expected, Sony has announced that a new version of the
infamous PSP battery will be released in Japan
later this month—North American and European release dates have not been confirmed. However, the new model, while
boasting the same size as the original, will only add (up to) 20% more battery life (2200mAh compared to 1800mAh). So,
if you're only getting about 4 hours per charge now, you can look forward to an additional 48 minutes; if you get
closer to six, then you'll get an extra 72 minutes or so. The upgraded battery will retail for 5,300 yen (about $46).
It's unclear if Sony plans to package this new battery with future PSP units.
