Company creates Mech for "promotional" purposes
We've found another example of life imitating art video games! This time a
Japanese company has created a mech very similar in
design to the walkers from games like the Mechwarrior or Gundam series of games. Unfortunately the
mech doesn't seem to have the ability to either crush walls or fly (c'mon, it has wheels on its feet) and—as one digg
commentor stated—its worst enemy is likely a "stiff wind".
Still, who wouldn't want a personal mech warrior to carry the shopping on a rainy Saturday morning?!

Holy crap! Where can I get one of those babies?
John @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
Man, this is like several months old and has been reported on extensively in other tech sites like Engadget and Gizmodo.
C'mon guys. I know it's a holiday, but you can do better.
Conrad @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
Yes, we realise this is "old". But as we've stated in the past we're not a news site. We'll report anything that we think is of interest to the Joystiq reader.
TCG @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
Yeah, that may be, but there's a difference between *report* and *repost*.
Zeta the gaming junkie @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
Ahhhh, c'mon. The Joystiq guys found something cool and thought we might like it. I know i did, even thought ive heard of stuff like this other places. G4 did and interesting segment on electric playground about some dude in Alaska who is building a mech from scratch so he can start a mech-vs-mech fighting league. Good job, guys, I'm glad to hear he isnt the only nut doing this. And no, I'm not a plant, I'm just grateful.

Yeah, totally old news guys... crappy pick too. Nothing to do with video games either... lame post.
Rare Hare @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
i would love to see mechs become more common place..
i would watch a mech fighting circuit weekly, or even daily.
hell, i did it with battle bots. where did they go, anyway?? :(
Glenn @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
"Man, this is like several months old and has been reported on extensively in other tech sites like Engadget and Gizmodo."
Yes, everyone in the world goes to those sites everyday. Just because you've seen it already doesn't mean you have to be a pompous @$$.
"Yeah, totally old news guys... crappy pick too. Nothing to do with video games either... lame post."
Did you miss the reference to *games* like Mechwarrior and Gundam?
Martez @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
It doen't even have arms! How can I walk the streets of my small town neighborhood and pick up cars and fight Sonic the Hedgehog and The Hulk in that thing?
Bah. It's like Nintendo coming out with the SP without a headphone jack all over again, only on a much larger scale.
friggin kids @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
Bitch bitch bitch.
Efren @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
Anyone else notice the damn mech's feet never leave the ground? He just kinda shuffles his feet back and forth but never actually walks.
I'll invest in one that can sprint like my beloved Uziel.. and has dual PPCs.

You could post a story about anything and mention a video game... just about every conceivable man-made object has been in a video game.
This post was pointless and old. Blow me.
Kim Laughton @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
Funny mentioning a game based on an anime series as an influence…
BlackYoshi @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
When they make goliaths like the ones in starcraft, I'll consider it. But a roller skating mech, THATS NO GOOD.
Pardeep Basra @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
I believe that anything people do that makes the reality of armed, large, human controlled robots a reality should be praised!
This is wicked, and not everybody spends hour upon hour online checking every single site/blog/newspost
Rare Hare @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
Cambob(#12):
you're an idiot. the reason mechs have to do with video games is that video games are what made mechs popular.
and the reason joystiq posted it is because it's something they thought their readers would find interesting. it's obvious that readers of a video game blog would be interested in mechs, because video games are really the only form of media that perpetuates their popularity.
i don't see you with your own blog in the top 100 (and #2 in the case of engadget, joystiq's mother site), so quit bitching. quit being so thick, asshole.
ill trooper @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
I never saw it before. Now I have. Cool. Thanks for the info.
Honestly, Joystiq has been putting up new posts every few hours, even on holiday weekends when no one is really doing anything anyway. If you see something you've seen before, just go watch TV for a while and come back later - something new is bound to be there. No reason to post about how it's "old" or "pointless;" you just sound like a little girl.
Cambob @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
I can't compete with all you intellectual giants. I guess if Joystiq wants to post old stories that have no direct baring on video games, I'll look the other way.
15 -> Japanese animation and live games made mechs popular. I know why Joystiq posted this, you moron, I just thought it was weak especially seeing how old and prevalent this story was on the Internets. You think I shouldn't criticize because I don't have a popular blog??? That is retarded. This blog has a comments section. I am a reader of this blog, therefore, I will post comments. I don't need a blog to post on a blog. You're the asshole for being so stupid and displaying your stupidity for all to see.
Anyway, I'm done griping... for now. If you don't like my comments ignore them.... or don't. See if I really care.
Rare Hare @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
well, sorry, but there's non reason for you to bitch just to bitch. there's no reason to criticize these writers, most of which are doing a great job. if you don't like the story, don't read it, fucktard.
Google Nazi @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
Although this "mech" is about 5 or 6+ years old I won't complain about that. I just want to say that this isn't technically a mech.
http://www.r50rd.co.uk/research/internal/v2i/engin/index.html
That on the other hand is more of a mech. The only problem with that one is that it is remotely controlled and who knows what they have done since then (it is 5 years old).
To state for the record the Mech that you saw on G4 Is the Neogentronyx http://neogentronyx.com/
I believe that next year Mech technology will grow even further and better then before :)
Tyre Durgan @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
This company looks like they make mostly farming equipment.
Sloopydrew @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
I'm still holding out for Mech porn.
