The Bay Area chapter of the International Game Developer's Assoc. held their latest meeting at the Sony Metreon in San Francisco last week. The subject: Dragons! Designer and technical art director Matthias Worch was on hand to discuss both the digital and physical modeling techniques his team at Factor 5 is using for Lair, a next-gen exclusive for PS3. Using a combination of 3D rendering and maquette modeling (with help from Dragonheart modeler Peter Konig), Worch hopes to build the perfect beast - and provide gamers with dragons who sport 5 million triangles and more than ten textures of fire-breathing power!

Whose to say the ps3 can acheive that? Microsoft is giving more reasonable numbers as is Nintendo.
Any way y r we talking bout games on the ps3? ITs not a game machine, remember? More like a super computer with a little mirror.
I love Ken Kurigari (oh wait, no i don't): I'm suprised anyone can listen and trust this gangster. HAHA
Sony's head makes Allard look like a genius.
"Nikkei Business reported that, to date, .6 percent of the 800,000 shipped units have been returned to Sony for repair. Kutaragi was unapologetic about the issue: "This is the design that we came up with. There may be people that complain about its usability, but that's something which users and game software developers will have to adapt to. I didn't want the PSP's LCD screen to become any smaller than this, nor did I want its machine body to become any larger."
"The button's location is [architectured] on purpose," Kutaragi added. "It's according to specifications. This is something that we've created, and this is our specification. There was a clear purpose to it, and it wasn't a mistake."
Quote:
"I believe we made the most beautiful thing in the world. Nobody would criticize a renowned architect's blueprint that the position of a gate is wrong. It's the same as that."
"According to ITmedia, Kutaragi surprised the reporters present by making several cryptic comments after the conference had ended. ITmedia quoted Kutaragi as saying that the PSP "is expected to be used inside the house. No one would walk around while playing games."
"We have other [DVD] recorders in our house, but my family just uses the PSX."
"We're not going to equip [the PS3 with] a HDD by default, because no matter how much [capacity] we put in it, it won't be enough. We've added a 2.5-inch HDD bay so that users can equip HDDs, such as 80GB and 120GB, even though that's still not enough [capacity]."
"Whether consumers think a product is expensive or cheap all depends on the balance between its appeal and price," he said. "Our ideal [for the PS3] is for consumers to think to themselves, 'OK, I'll work more hours and buy it.' We want people to feel that they want it, no matter what."
"Cell is not like that. Application programs can no longer directly access the hardware; instead they will have to be written in high-level, object-oriented language. That was done for security reasons: If processors of high performance and wide bandwidth like the Cell were linked together without sufficient security, a worldwide system crash could occur with one attack."
"I'm aware that with all these technologies, the PS3 can't be offered at a price that's targeted towards households. I think everyone can still buy it if they wanted to,"
And the absolute worst one of all:
Quote:
"The PlayStation [3] is not a game machine. We've never once called it a game machine,We haven't been creating our [past] PlayStations for the sake of games. The PS3 isn't designed to lean towards games. It's not a computer for children. In the sense that our goal has been [to create] a computer that's meant for entertainment, you could say that the original PlayStation and PlayStation 2 had existed as steps towards the PlayStation 3."

It looks great, I got noting against the PS3 besides it's price.
If it goes over $460 I'm out
The 360 is going to become the next staple because Sony's going to do what they did with the beta-max, charge too much money.
after all, in the end that's what it all comes down to.
PS3 games may look better but they will also take longer to make and be more expensive
(based on the fact that the more threads you use the more complex things get period, and the fact that blue ray is a brand new tech)
So to think Sony will keep it's reign on top is PS3 fanboyism.
personally I'm looking forward to the revolution; Nintendo is focusing more on making games fun and exciting again rather than sparkly and life like.
graphics don't make good games, they just complement them.
Plus I'm looking forward to downloading a couple of my old N64 and SNES favorites.
unless Sony can find a way to make the PS3 affordable, I'll go with MS (after they make a price drop or two) and Nintendo (which will probably give me a good deal at launch)

This thread is proof Joystiq needs to start banning posters by IP address.
Sheesh. It's worse than Usenet around here.

If you are being teased you will enjoy it and want more. However if you get teased too long the frustration will overcome the joy and cause loss of interest. This happends in two situations. I will let you think on what situations those are and how it applies to this.

Has anyone here actually worked on any kind of a product being prepared for commercialization?
The desired and yes even the CLAIMED specs are ALWAYS better than what actually arrives. I am not speculating here since I'm sure the Gears of War specs are the same way. EVERYTHING IS OVER RATED before launch. BTW its not delibirate... products we have worked on honestly seem like they will be better than they actually wind up being... you just start running into stuff that requires a 5% reduction here and a 10% reduction there and before long you are down to 30-50% of your origanal goal/claims.
Just so everyone dosnt think I am showing irrational favor to one game or console over another I do plan to buy a 360 AND a ps3 (REV i will wait and see on... the "big N" has not released NEARLY enough info)
