PS3 festival set for Tokyo Oct. 22-30
According to The
Magic Box, Sony has announced a PlayStation 3 entertainment festival for October 22-30 of this year in Tokyo,
Japan.
The Akihabara Enta Matsuri (presumably held in Akihabara, that mecca of Japanese gaming goods) will provide a
showcase for "all the new PlayStation 3 software and hardware," though "it is uncertain whether the software will be
playable or in video form only."
So will over a week's worth of PS3 hoopla be enough to deter any new MS admirers from putting down those 360
pre-orders? Can Sony put down the next 'Box a year before a PlayStation launch (much like it did to the scrappy, but
admittedly more Japanese Dreamcast)? It should be a fun month, folks, and we can't wait to see what Ken's got up his
sleeves!
[Thanks, Night Walker; the news will likely be in the archives
here later.]

It's important to note that this is coinciding with a FILM FESTIVAL. I predict more trailers.
Night Walker @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Hopefully we'll get some full blown gameplay videos and even some hands on impressions.
With the 360 out just a month later in Japan Sony need to act, the big question is if they are ready?
I sure hope so.
Vice Lexington @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Oooh, this sounds fun. I hope it doesn't get too crowded (although the chances of that happening are next to nothing if it's in Akihabara). I'll be sure to stop in and check out the system. Hopefully there'll be more content than TGS. God, living in Tokyo is great. I've only been here three months and I've gone to TGS, met Adam Sessler (not that I care- it's being on G4 that matters, right? :P), and now there's this Xbox Lounge and PS2 festival. Sweet... Now all that's missing is a big Nintendo event. Maybe a late SpaceWorld? Please? Pleeaaseee? Just a little more info, Nintendo! C'mon! O_o
OTAM @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
OOh,VC,going for the throat,ouch.
Anyways,I hope Sony shows off something aside from Devil May Cry,MGS and Final Fantasy because I don't really care for any of the series.
I would really like a new Stuntman, that game has alot of cool shit in it and was a really original game. It's a shame it didnt get that big though to get a sequel because I really enjoyed it.
Fuzz @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
New software AND HARDWARE. Does this mean we get to see the final controller? Hopefully they tonned down the batarang look.
jc @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Can we have game demos before the full development kit is launched in december?
Scott @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
hahahaha. This is going to end up being a huge joke if Sony does this and has no playable PS3 games.
Glenn @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Probably just more game movies and techical demos. Maybe we'll get to see the PS3 remote and start a whole new argument about how Nintendo came up with the idea first.
Smiling Politely @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
I hope the PS3 has more vent holes this time. J. Allard is very concerned.
prooie @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
show me hardware, playable demos running on said hardware, give me a price and launchdate for europe. All that before the 360 ships in december. If they don't I'll buy the 360. If the price is too high, the launchdate too late or the grpahics not significantly better than that of the 360 it means Microsoft will get my money as well.
Not a lame propaganda eater... @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Some of your editors must have IQ problems, other wise they wouldn't say stuff as:"much like it did to the scrappy, but admittedly more Japanese Dreamcast", I wonder what was "scrappy" in the Dreamcast device & if your going to say it didn't sell, that had nothing to do with the hardware, only lack of money from Sega to market it, all their money went in development of this wonderfull game machine... P$2 IS scrappy compared to Dreamcast, Soulcalibur 2 on it, is uglyer than the 1st opus on the Dreamcast.......whatever...
Dan Choi @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Whoa, Nalpe... I used "scrappy" in the positive, full-o-fightin' sense! Check out the less "fragmentary" definitions here:
1. Quarrelsome; contentious.
2. Full of fighting spirit. See Synonyms at argumentative.

Sorry if you misunderstood my intentions there. Scrappy-Dappy-Doo!

Port Salut is so "last Gen"
Dan Choi @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Er, Port... Salut? I heard that game makers can be cheesy, but that's simply ridiculous... or off-topic?

What if we see Revolution playable demos before PS3. That would just be plain terrible. They are gonna have to show something. But how many games are gonna live up to the quality that is expected in this new machine. Enough with the CGI clips and all that. Show some playable footage.
Jonas @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
J ... man come on what r u talkin bout...the revolution gonna show sumthing first...it took nintendo like years to speak on the revolutions...they havent even revealed the specs of the system...and i have never seen 1 screen sho of what a game o the revo looks like...so i think its Highly unlikely that they are gonna demo sumthing b4 SONY !
Ruari @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
THE NEW PLAYSTATION 3 HARDWARE DESIGN WILL BE SHOWN, MARK MY WORDS.
Dralt @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
PS3 playable games will be at E3 06. Not before. (same time frame as Microsoft...Microsoft had no openly playable games at E3 05 and they ship in November...)
Sony will probably own E3 06.
George Jetson @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM

well, it's obvious that you didn't go to E305 based on this comment cause I personaly played Need for Speed on the 360 in EA's booth with an official 360 controller... out in the open, for everyone to see.
Slashbunny @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Sony doesnt need playable demos. They aren't releasing their system in a month. Videos are good enough for most people. It's not an indication that they are lying about the hardware capability. Lying about how powerful their hardware was would screw the countless games in development over. That would be very bad. Sony can say "make the game assuming X and Y specs" and the final hardware will meet those specs at least. Now if they don't show gameplay, then that will suck. But any real gameplay, on actual hardware or not, playable or not, is all Sony needs at this point.
Dralt @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
#19.
Yeah, I played it too...on Xbox.
I was talking about next-generation games, not ports of current-generation titles.
Clint @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
I hope they give me a reason to cancel my preorder for the 360. I'd be happy to preorder the PS3, IF... they give me some kind of reason.
Anyone seen a preoder for PS3 yet?
George Jetson @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
six months before the ps2 came out, at the september 99 TGS, they had playable games, a set launch date, and an exact price. ps2 launched six months later in march of 00.
seems like they are behind on the ps3 since they proved with the ps2 that they could show playable titles 6 months before launch.
oh and dralt... doesn't matter if they were ports or original titles, doesn't matter. 360 games were playable on the show floor, proving your #18 comment 100% incorrect.
nate @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
HAAAAA Sweet
ghostedge @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
