Back in
October 2003, the team that develops Teamspeak, an
online voice communication program specifically targeted at gamers with its low bandwidth requirements, tentatively
announced a Mac version. Since then, there's been a lot of speculation over whether it'll ever come out for the
Mac.
Apple even lent the team Mac hardware back in March 2004 to get the job done quicker. But all Mac users have seen since then are delaying tactics; "We'll release a Mac version with Teamspeak 3!" the dev team proclaimed. The "TS for Mac!" thread has over 314 responses back from 2002, mainly from interested gamers or even developers offering to help out with a Mac port.
Well now it seems that the Mac gaming community's prayer's have been answered, around 3 years after this whole fiasco started. No more will Mac gamers have to use the high bandwidth and 8 person limited iChat for in-game communication. An independent developer by the name of "Savvy" has started up a site, accouncing a 3rd party Mac OS X version of Teamspeak called TeamSpeex. Currently the program is in closed beta, with an open beta available for download soon.
