Pro-G recently talked with Ubisoft's Yannis Mallat, the executive
producer for the Prince of Persia franchise. If you're curious why Ubi has decided to take Prince of
Persia, a perfectly good action/adventure franchise, down the Acid! road, look no further. Basically, it
boils down to the DS interface, which Ubisoft believes is better suited for organizing a deck of cards than navigating
intricate traps and decapitating unworthy opponents. A fresh look is always welcome, but this shift to strategy-based
gameplay isn't exactly original.

It wasn't exactly an original idea to take the 2D Prince of Persia games to 3D, but I don't hear anyone complaining about that.
Come on, someone comes out with a game and you crap all over it. Please continue to crap on LOTR Tactics because the recent EA LOTR games aren't tactics titles.
Or dump on Mario Strikers cause there isn't a soccer ball in Mario's other games.
Or poop on the Jack and Daxter racing title cause, you know not original. There are LOTS of other kart racers.
So someone is making a game suited for the DS instead of trying to shoehorn a crappy port on the system? That, my friends, is GOOD NEWS, unless you are trying to incite another DS/PSP riot by reporting about a possibly cool game specifically designed for the target platform but doing it with enough smarmy attitude to remind everyone that you don’t like the DS. Then, by all means, keep reporting.

Can we expect anything else, #1? I mean, this site is run solely by college kids who report to calcanaisiais or whatever his name is.

I don't know what all the talk against Joystiq is for...I personally love the talk. Granted, I disagree with their assessment of the game; in fact, Metal Gear Acid is the only PSP game I still own, having sold the rest. And this just might be the reason I go out and pick up a DS.

Prince of Persia, for the DS, is a card battle game.
Metal Gear, for the PSP, is a card battle game.
Which do you think hurt the fanboys more?

Well I'm disappointed. I don't understand card games. Maybe that's because I've never played them, but quite frankly I'm not going to run out and pay $40 to try something that looks so boring.

Well, I pretty much own my DS (and GBA) because I love that tactical/strategy action (and I believe Ross and Ben would agree), so let me assure you that the love for Nintendo handhelds is alive and well here with the Joystiq staff.
That said, card-battle games were never really my thing, but if the Ubi PoP folks can improve on the Yu-Gi-Oh/Magic: The Gathering formula (and possibly make it more accessible to general audiences), then they could have something that actually sells (and sells well) on their hands. Here's hoping for the best.
