It's actually so large because there's a PS2 Slim in there. That's BC that would actually be useful...

Wow...
I did not know a power supply could cause so much excitement. If that's the one that is going to ship, looks like the 360 needs all that juice. Honestly, I'd rather have it outside the console, rather than have it in it.

While we are on the topic of dev kits here, let's check out the PS3 dev kit pic and get some of your creative comments....

So then if the PS3's graphics and power are supposedly "better" than the 360 like is said (I personally think they'll be neck and neck),how big is that powerunit going to be?

Honestly,i've never heard so much talk over an A/C adapter. What is going to be the topic next, the size of the eject tray button?

Are you guys all NUTZ! Who cares? I also have an Alienware Area 51M & my PSU is at least that size, maybe larger! It's 650 watts & even has it's own cooling fans. I use it at work & home & the size has never been a problem.

And when does size equal recall or fire hazard...Jack-ASS!

As an engineer I can say w/ confidence that a smaller unit requires that all the internal components, step transformers, power filters, wiring & the like be jammed together. This impedes good airflow & proper heat dissipation.

I for one prefer a larger PSU that runs cool & cool equals efficient! Besides it seem like those of you that are complaining about size are also crying about the cost of the system. News flash... smaller equals costlier!

And as far as system cost, $400 bucks is a good deal. C'mon, that's about the cost of a top end I-Pod! Read what all the hardware gurus & developers are saying. The 360 is a powerhouse under the hood. How much do you think 3-3.2Ghz core processors cost? The 360 will put top end gaming rigs on the defensive for some time too come. At least until multi-core processors are available for PC's.

I paid approx. 3 grand for my Alienware 2 years ago. And even though games like Halo, Painkiller, Half-Life-2 & the like run great on it. It looks like if I want to play the next wave of PC games I may need to fork over $500 to $800 for upgrades. Only 2 years old & already I need to start thinking about upgrading or a new machine?!?

When I get my 360 on Nov. 22nd I know that a 360 game 4-5 years from now will play just as good as a 360 game available today will play. That’s worth the price of admission alone!

You know,… If the size offends you then don’t buy it! I never understood why people thought that the Xbox was huge or ugly or both. The PS2 ain’t no pretty baby! The again, weren’t the Japanese the ones who got their panties all in a wad over this?! The Japanese are just plain crazy! Cool but crazy!

That is a prototype...that is NOT the final design for the SDK for the PS3. When the PS2 was still being designed (and when the GT 2000 demo was playable at E3) it looked very similar

Seems that my post caused some misunderstanding amonst the good folks here. It appears to have set some people of on a wild trajectory of 'bursting into flames' themselves, right here in the comments. I'll admit, my writing is a bit aloof, so I'll spell it out:

When I brought up the SIZE, and "Bursting into flames," some of you misinterpreted what I was talking about:

I was saying that the SIZE and SHAPE of the Xbox 360 (and it's enormous power adapter) don't really matter that much. What is important are the games and graphics, etc. that it can put on the SCREEN, which is what you look at and pay attention to. The system (and ESPECIALLY this power adapter) will probably be off to the side, behind the TV, etc.

(Perfect place for the cat to lay on.)

Anyway

I wound it up saying "as long as it doesn't burst into flames," meaning: whatever size it is, if I can play good games on it, it's fine with me, as long as it's SAFE FROM RECALL LIKE THE LAST XBOX cord. A little joking, of course, about the precedent Microsoft and the LAST XBox power cord have set for 'bursting into flames:"

So there you go, BlackYoshi, squiggles the engineer, whoever.
The very literal assessment of my original post.

Actually. This A/C Adapter is not the actual one shown here. Because if you look at it. The Beta development Kit's Hard Drive is like 5 times bigger than the actual one we get in our boxes on November 22nd. So I think this is sort of like that, where the A/C Adapter is like 5 times as bigger then the one will eventually get. Thats just my opinion.

Good idea in my opinion, keeps alot of the heat away from the 360, rather it be outside than inside :-)

Squidly: Yea ok your Alienware uses a tank to power the damn thing, but we all know what went down with the XBOX...it frikken exploded! My brother's XBOX exploded while he was playing some Basketball shit!!

it's just a joke...I'll be buying one myself, the ghostbuster's ecto containment unit can fit behind my entertainment unit with no problem.

i got a 200 pd CRT wide screen HDTV so this does not phase me, lol

considering it's watercooled with the ps outside of the unit it would probably melt
if they had a single box ps and console....or it would just be as big as a fragbox PC
