Penny Arcade donates $10,000 in Jack's name to charity

Right. Because they aren't already going to schools to do comic demos, running expos, rallying fundraisers, doing comics for video games, winning awards all over the place... Penny-Arcade is the most well known webcomic on the internet, period. The fact that I quote any one of their comics in a room full of people at the mall and get a 90% turn around ratio, with a smile/nod to verify they know what I'm talking about.

Penny Arcade doesn't NEED publicity. If you know anything about Gabe's personality, you'd know this is by no means out of character for him. It's just who he is, and I love him for it.

Every time the PA guys deal with an idiot like this they always get some nonsensical response claiming they 'need the traffic', when the truth is theirs is one of the most influential sites on the web today. And, as they've clearly shown, they know what to do with their influence. I don't think anyone could have found a more mature yet devastating way to respond to Thompson's idiocy.

Gosh, and I had liked Gabe and Tycho even before all of this. Now I flat-out admire them.

Many thanks to the makers of Penny Arcade for both giving aid to the poor and for giving Jack Thompson a well-deserved slap in the face.

These guys managed to turn an attempt at positive publicity (really a desperate plea for attention) into an absolute humiliation, no question about it. It's check and mate. Puncto: Penny Arcade. PA pwnz Jack.

And not only did they totally flip the tables on him, they did it in a way that is positive. You really can't beat that.

It's gone now but on Friday afternoon on the Jack Thompson wikipedia page, under "See also"...it said "asshole."

But by the time I went back to check it, it was gone...lol...I wanted a screen cap of it to make it an forum sig.

I find it pretty pathetic that a high profile lawyer would renege on that public offer to donate to a charity. Is it me or did he just do a great job at blowing his credibility on this one?

Speaking of Jack, I see that he hasn't commented on any of this so far. Perhaps he's sulking in the corner and trying to figure out how to reattach his balls? He obviously didn't have them when they presented the game mod, or he would have stepped up and honored his challenge.

I didn't know it was POSSIBLE for someone to get owned as hard as Jack Thompson just got. Owned to the tune of $20,000 (the $10,000 that Jack DIDN'T donate plus the $10,000 that PA DID.)

I'm going to preorder the PA book right now, and I'm donating to Child's Play ASAP. Least I can do.

What a way for Gabe and Tycho to turn a constant stream of negative energy into a positive result! If they hadn't already proven that there are two very earnest and real people behind the sarcastic gloss that is Penny Arcade, they most definitely have now.

I wonder if this will shame any sense into Mr. Thompson? Surely, revoking an offer of a charitable donation is a special kind of low.

Ever since I heard about this "top notch lawyer", I've been wondering: Why is it that him being such an "important" and "successful lawyer" has to come "down to the level of gamers" with insults instead of rational comments? I just love it.

Gabe and Tycho's donation should be the final nail in this whole Jack Thompson thing. His outlandish, immature, and frankly mean-sprited attempts to profit off of the fear of a new medium need no more attention. He's powerless, lacks credibility, and thrives off of attention.
