Flagship developer Bill Roper has been making the rounds for the past few weeks giving demos of his team's new RPG-action-shooter Hellgate: London. These are the same guys responsible for the Diablo series and they've infused Hellgate with much of the same addictive dungeon crawling, treasure collecting, and character leveling that we've grown to love over the past ten years.
This time the setting is a post-apocalyptic London that's infested with demonic hordes - think "Doom on Earth" with RPG elements. You can alternate between first and third person perspectives depending on whether you're engaged in ranged or melee combat, and combos that incorporate both styles of weapons will be available.
Only the templar character class (a paladin of sorts) has been revealed so far, but there will be various others to choose from and there are even rumors of an EverQuest-style faction standing system that will determine your allegiances with the demonic castes. Hellgate: London will be published by Namco, but no release date is in sight - remember how long it took for Diablo II?
