Game Revolution writer Duke Ferris has taken a look at the popular accusation that games turn people into violent monsters. The article uses figures from the U.S. Department of Justice to compare the release dates of violent games with the crime rate at that time.
Surprisingly, the last few years show a massive decrease in the violent crime rate across America. In fact,
in 2002 the U.S. DoJ recorded the lowest number of homicides in children aged 14-17 ever recorded.
The article comes to the conclusion that the media—and certain "douchebag" lawyers—are misleading us. The figures show that the "Playstation generation" is one of the least violent ever. So why are we seeing a repeat of the 1950s Rock n' Roll scandals, this time with video games?
