I would like to simply add a note here to say the people posting here are doing a great job of contributing to a great conversation. It's nice to see some rational thought about an issue such as this.

You know how a few people bought peoples spots in line for the 360? I heard that some people bought them for $1000. What i might do is get in line early for the PS3 and sell my spot cause im not gonna get the PS3 anyway.

Can someone tell me this, when a console comes out they release it in drips and there is always a shortage. Why can't they put the release dates back until they have enough to go round. It is true for games, top titles are always been put back, and put back, and put back, oh,, and put back.

I have considered a wild idea: Microsoft loses around USD 130 per console if they sell them for USD 400. In Japan, they are losing even more (USD 200?). So, what stops Microsoft from putting 300,000 consoles in retailers (USD 39,000,000 loss), plus... say... 10,000 in eBay, selling at an average of USD 700 (USD 1,500,000 earnings).

The numbers are too small (for Microsoft, that is) to really care... but wouldn't this be a new way of marketing, where you lose through retailers and gain (even if little) through auction sites?
