Doom movie review: The worst of both worlds

Doom movie screenHere's what Cinematical had to say about the feature-film version of the classic first-person shooter: "Doom isn't operatically bad; it's just derivative, inert and dull… all it offers us is shooting and shouting, while strapping the audience firmly in the passenger's side with nothing to do but watch and yawn."

This is in stark contrast to the reception a gamer site (namely, IGN) had to say in the review we linked to earlier, but even they gave the movie only three out of five stars. Perhaps it's the difference in the cultural backgrounds of the reviewers that's responsible for such a difference of opinion (the reviewer here believes the FPS sequence near the end of the movie will be "confusing to game fans"), but Cinematical's film critic found little to redeem the Urban-Rock adventure.

Gamers may have had their standards lowered by the terrible game-to-movie adaptations in the past, but try not to go into the theaters tomorrow with your expectations set too high. We all know where that can lead. Hopefully, some free loot will make it all better.
