Another day, another opportunistic e-tailer makes a bid to collect the credit card information of those who really should know better. "Game.net" is now taking pre-orders on a game that's still a long way away from release. We don't recommend pre-ordering from this or any site that pulls the trick of taking orders on a product that hasn't even been announced yet, but hey, it's your prerogative. Who are we to keep a fool and his money from parting?
(Side note: if you use a debit card to pre-order things online—generally a bad idea in the first place—your card is authorized for the full amount of the transaction to make sure it's valid. This authorization makes that money unavailable to you for the duration of the authorization. Pre-ordering enough items in advance of their release and you won't have any credit left for regular purchases. We've seen this cause checks to bounce, so just be careful.)
Here's a prediction: Halo 3 will coincide with the launch of the PS3 here in the FPS-playing world. Point is, Halo 3 is still a good ways away. You can bet there will be months of tiring ARGs prior to the game's launch.
Update: clarified language around pre-ordering at Game.net. Thanks for the note, Jeremy.
