I still have my old consoles (except PS1 which is useless when you have a PS2) with games, and if I ever feel like it, I just have to connect it, and if I don't have a game, I borrow it from anyone I know, or at least get it from ebay. Or buy it again, just check all the remakes that are coming out.

I agree with you in the fact that you are not a well informed person, Nintendo already said that these games will be updated graphically, and with some revolution features (like online play for example). That is what you are paying for. You can get none of these things "for free", let alone that getting them "for free" isn't even legal you putz. Yeah, Xbox has 1080i resolution, so? PS3 has 1080p, so MSFT can stop bragging about that. And the fact that they don't say explicitly that you need Hi Definition, but that MSFT brags all the time about it, it's implicit that they wanted to make Xbox an important choice for Hi Definition users. Too bad PS3 is better at that. Too bad it can't play hi definition movies, so it's a mediocre choice for Hi Definition users.

And no, MSFT is not the only one launching with a Hard Drive. Nintendo has Flash Memory, which is more reliable than a hard drive that can fail. Besides, the 360 needs it for "backwards compatibility... sort of" and for game patches, that's why Nintendo can afford to just launch with 512 MB of storage. Also, the PS3 will launch with optional and much bigger hard drives.

Yeah, but then I'd be wasting the 20 GB HD. Also, Can I buy one universal 2TB hard drive that costs only thrice the piece of shit 20GB XBOX ONLY, or does it have to be an "Xbox only" hard drive? If it is an Xbox only hard drive, will I be able to install all my games, besides my music and some movies, or will it be a shitty hard drive with a shitty system that won't let me do that? OH the 360 doesn't have 1080p, which no tv has, and it doens't have two hdmi outputs. That is really important to a system.

My ps1 stopped working during the metal gear rex fight of metal gear solid. My Ps2 hates GTA 3 and all Dvd roms, and no joke my old sony 20 inch crapped out on me a year ago. I think sony is on the right track. If you make a p.o.s console people will have to buy it again when the first one breaks. Microsoft and Nintendo take note!

I've never had a hard drive fail, in my decade using computers. Just thought I'd point out the rarity of your argument.

The Halo 2 map packs took up 250MB of space. A similar map pack with Hi-Definition textures, and possibly larger levels for more players, could easily take up more than 3 times as much space. Suddenly that 512MB of Flash Memory (that never fails! Whoopie!) doesn't seem so big. It couldn't even fit a Map Pack.

Each KOTOR save was roughly 10MB, if I recall, and being the type of player I am, I like to save to a different slot every couple hours. 20 saves, 200MB. Make it a little bigger, considering the extra complexity next-gen Bioware games will likely have.

I'm not saying Flash memory is bad, I'm just saying Hard Drives are better, and useful.

In eBay you can find anything, didn't you see the past game auctions? Of course, they were expensive, but there are tons of very cheap auctions at eBay in which you could get games for a dollar. Yes, you have to pay for shipping, that's why you buy multiple games to disperse the cost. If another gamer lets you have his game for a little money, it is not piracy or is it? Is he violating copyrights? Nobody is making illegal copies, so no. He’s not making a profit either, since he is selling it for less than what it cost him (and nobody can make the assumption of the contrary when there is no proof). Hell, if EB and Gamestop do it and it’s legal when they are ripping us off, I don’t see why not buy them cheaper from someone to stop these EB and GS assholes. You’ll think it’s not practical to do it the legal way, but that’s what you do if you want to not brake the law, but “everyone does it”, that is why companies will start to offer things online, which is legal, and it makes up for gamers. "Everyone does it, so why shouldn't I?” That is a lame pretext.

And by the way, if Halo was complete and not rushed out, you wouldn't have needed the hard drive. That's something Nintendo doesn't like doing, that's why they delayed Zelda, and I'm glad. Nintendo will never need updates, and I'm sure 512MB are enough for just game saves and a few revolution games. Of course, you can always buy more flash memory as memory cards, and not have to get another freaking hard drive, which if 20GB is 100 dollars, I wonder how much will a 200GB will cost?

I said that I wouldn't download ROMs from Nintendo if they didn't have a single update as Iwata said they would. I don't remember being let down by Nintendo anyway. If they are indeed updated, and it's legal to do it, then I have no problem on downloading a few games that are 64 Megs in size, TOPS (A 64 game). Besides, I could get two flash memories for just games, and another two (tops) for game saves, which is too much anyway, considering I rarely fill up a memory card, like almost anyone (and that is a very extreme case; I think 512 MB will be more than enough; when I said I want a huge hard drive for PS3, I know it’s more than enough, but that’s because I want it as a commodity, so if the 360 HD is a “commodity”, I consider it mediocre, and if I get a 360 I have to get that, or the shitty core bundle).

And in that extreme case, it would be even cheaper than a 100 dollars hard drive, considering that at least it’s more secure than hard drives, and that the hard drive is necessary for games you already bought. But that only happens with Xbox.

In your case, probably hard drive failure is rare, but in my case, my last Toshiba Laptop (that I still use, but it is the last one I will use) had several disk failures. Some said due to “extreme use”. I had warranty for two of the three disk failures, but unfortunately I couldn’t back up all my info. Some said “it happens when the disk is old or over used”; but with flash memory that just won’t happen. Also, Toshiba is a piece of shit, I’m never getting one again, and neither should you. I’m not the only dissatisfied customer, I know several close friends that had problems with it, like a burned motherboard in the FIRST WEEK, and now his computer died, even when he bought it after I did LOL. I’m still having problem with shitty ATI Radeon, too bad nVidia doesn’t make video cards for laptops. I wonder if Microsoft having an alliance with ATI and Toshiba in different areas is just coincidental.

But anyway, it still happens, even if not as often, with all hard disks, sooner or later. That’s why I rather have flash memory, and discs as back up, instead of having to download a lot of content. I’ll say it again; I want the hard disk as a commodity to install all my discs, but not to heavily rely on it as with Xbox.

The Halo Map Pack was bonus content made after the game was complete. Something that Xbox Live account subscriptions no doubt paid for.

I love Steam. I don't know if you play HL or any of it's mods, so maybe you don't use it. I think it's great and I love the ease of use. Buying video games online is awesome.

I can't even remember what I'm arguing about, so I'll switch over to something you mentioned earlier.

The PS3 cannot and will not compete with a half decent Media Center PC. If you're looking for a media hub or whatever, Windows MCE is the way to go. Xbox 360 happens to work excellently with one. And on that PC, you can literally have terabytes (if you're made of money) of all the HD media you could possibly want. You can upgrade it for cheaper than you can upgrade your PS3 or Xbox, you can have access to BluRay AND HD-DVD, not to mention everything else you can imagine.
I'm not saying 360 is better for this reason. But MCE is the best for Media, no matter what. There's no reason to tout the PS3 as some Media Champion.
How they stack up to each other as game machines is all that matters. Backwards compatibility, Classic games, Live Arcade, none of that matters.
How can you congratulate Nintendo's frankness in stating that High Definition is unnecessary, and then criticise a lack of 1080p capabilities?

Summary: PS3s media capabilities will never stack up to a good media center PC, and the best console will, as always, be determined by games, not the extra junk.

who cares about online games. If its online, it looses its story and sense of direction. Take halo2 for example I own it so I know what its about the single player mode is great so is the coop 2 player story but when you play online it doesnt have a story at all just mindless shooting not to put the game down but I think developers need to maintain the story in games or it will all go to hell.

Which brings me to the thing I forgot, now that it's morning.

Live is not a frivolous nothing-service like Arcade. I love playing online with my friends, and the more that games utilize this service (Apparently PGR3 is the pinnacle of it) the better the online is.

I don't really play games for their single player stuff. XBL is the deciding factor for me in a console. I play halo 2 online nonstop. I can honestly say i haven't ever gotton past the first half of the game.

I criticize 360 and nor revolution for trying to be something like a PS3, which in fact is half way between Revo and PS3. I don't criticize revolution because they aren't as hypocritical, and because at least Nintendo is also doing a big leap in other areas, perhaps the most important: gameplay (and they also haven’t ruled out the possibility of HDTV capabilities anyway). And I just consider Sony to have a huge advantage with Blu-ray, at least for me. I seriously can’t wait to get 10 seasons of “The Simpsons” in one Disc, for example (Fox is going to publish in Blu-ray format anyway, so that could happen). I just see these two as the both the great extremes, I don’t want the “middle” where you are halfway between gameplay experiences and next generation media.

I also said that I'd love a 2TB disk on my console, but don't get me wrong, I never said I needed it. What I meant was that if I ever wanted a hard drive, it would better be a big one. So If I buy an ultimate bundle, I'd get a mediocre hard drive, but if I get the core, it's more expensive to upgrade later. But I'll just wait till everything 360 comes cheaper. It's a shame it doesn't include HD-DVD right out of the box. And I think they should have waited till 2006 for that, a bigger hard drive, 1080p (which is called “Real Hi definition” for something), gameplay, and perhaps a little more power, instead of remaining in the Xbox 1.5 level, improving solely on power and LIVE, but not that much.

Their only "advantage" is LIVE which costs 60 dollars a year, and that sucks because I mostly play on vacations/holidays so I would have to pay the more expensive fee of 10 dollar a month, but whatever. And still, I don't even know if it is going to be an advantage. We have yet to try Nintendo Wi-Fi connection, and Sony's new redesign of their shitty PSO, which don't cost as much. Some say LIVE is "worth it" because you can see it's that good for what MSFT spends on it (twice what you actually pay, or that's what they said), which is half truth because I just think it costs MSFT so much because they are not an efficient company.

The revo is a great extreme? what is it a great extreme of, normality? averageness? it is underpowered, and the only thing it has going (supposedly) is a remote that will make one arm really strong. Yeah, extreme, extremely lame.

And no High Def drive does not mean something is hypocrytical. DVD player support high Definition, but they don't have High Def drives, so does that mean those companies and products are hypocrytical about High Definition? (the answer is no)

Honestly, the guy with a Windows Media Center is going to come out on top as far as all this mumbo jumbo. They'll have Blu Ray, they'll have HD DVD, they'll have hybrids if they come along, and they'll easily upgrade to include anything else that comes along in the next 5 years. They'll be able to stream all of these things directly to their Xbox 360.

The games, which in this generation Microsoft seems to have a very good handle on, are important.

Live is a huge advantage, and a huge boost to those games. b clearly just doesn't have time to use it, or can't afford it, or doesn't have time to play games online (despite having plenty to play offline?) and so he won't bother looking at the benefits of such a well thought out service.

And that's assuming you never ever play it during the week. And if that's the case, why even buy a console? Just drop 50 bucks on a PC game and forget about all this.
