Best Buy to offer 360 titles early
One of our readers has reported that Best Buy will begin selling select titles for the Xbox 360 a week before the
system's launch. Games available for purchase on Nov. 15 include:
Call of Duty 2
Condemned: Criminal Origins
DOA 4
Kameo: Elements of Power
Need for Speed: Most Wanted
Quake 4
Perfect Dark: Zero
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland
King Kong will go on sale with the console and according to Gaming Nexus, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
and Project Gotham Racing 3 have been pushed back to the Dec. portion of the launch window. Hopefully, they'll
stock enough copies of the early releases so they don't run out before the console goes on sale.
[Thanks, Charles]

I hate this launch window BS Microsoft is trying to feed us. If it isn't out on the launch day, it isn't a luanch title, nor should it be labeled a "launch window" title. Just more buzz words from the awesomeness that is the Microsoft PR department. And that is why we still don't know what launch titles are going to be there on day one. Microsoft doesn't want people to cancel their preorder because of the fact that the anticipated titles (oblivion and PGR3) aren't going to be there on day one.
I'll still be getting an xbox360 on launch day, but maybe I'll be staying away from those "awesome MGS titles" that may or may not even be cpurchaseable on launch. It wouldn't be so bad if they just came out and told us what the launch titles are, instead of waiting till the last minute. I am all for pushing a game back to improve it. I am not a fan of being mislead...
LaughingTarget @ Dec 18th 2005 10:03PM
Um...why? Not gonna be able to use it on anything for a week...just sit there and look at the pretty box art?

I still think Microsoft has one last trick up their sleeves before launch that will rock the 360.
I think that will be Gears of War at launch.
BestBuy lists GOW for 2005.I'm not saying Bestbuy should be a credible source because they still have Oblivion and Amped3 as a Novemeber release, but there is something Microsoft is going to do to try and give one last big bang before they ship the system.
KrAzYmAn @ Dec 18th 2005 10:03PM
Same with EB Games, if you buy online they will ship a week early.

Dang it, if PGR3 is pushed back then that means I'll be without my preferred launch game with my costco.com bundle, that's gonna be pure chaos for them finding replacements there, including my own.
lybertyboy @ Dec 18th 2005 10:03PM
I work for another LARGE electronics retailer, and I can confirm that we will also be offering XBOX 360 games for sell before the hardware launches.
MosquitoControl @ Dec 18th 2005 10:03PM

No way. They'd be pushing it like mad right now.
EB has Alan Wake and Full Auto listed as launch games. They're not. It's simply that no one is updating these properly.
The1 @ Dec 18th 2005 10:03PM
My games are already preordered and paid in full. So I do not see the point in getting games early.
Walter @ Dec 18th 2005 10:03PM
I work at an EB and as far as i know we will be getting in our first batch of games November 8th. Atleast thats what our release list on the computer says. It does tend to update a little late.

i just played cod 2 and kameo and was rather unimpressed. i suggest your actually play some titles before plonking down some money
Nodnetni @ Dec 18th 2005 10:03PM
Did i miss something when did Perfect Dark get pushed back to Dec. 15(according to amazons listing). was just checking out the prices, because for some reason BB is selling PDZ for 59 while ever other place seems to be selling it for 49. I hope they start selling the accessories early as well, so i can play with some people when i get mine early(THANK YOU MT.DEW).
ill trooper @ Dec 18th 2005 10:03PM
Whoa, did I miss something this weekend? PGR3 delayed? I can't find anything about Perfect Dark being delayed like the above post mentions, is that true too?
Wow. Not the launch I pre-payed for: Ghost Recon, Project Gotham and Perfect Dark were the three I payed for.
Well, looks like it's Call of Duty and Condemned I'll get instead... Just have to wait for the rest.
charlie @ Dec 18th 2005 10:03PM
I remember Sony did the same exact thing for the PS2: All the stores were selling PS2 games and accessories a week or two before the actual console came out. Makes sense for them for a whole lot of reasons.
Ron Swerdfiger @ Dec 18th 2005 10:03PM
Aside from EB and Wal-Mar, who else has the system on display?
SychoBC @ Dec 18th 2005 10:03PM
Every retailer will be doing this. CompUSA will have all the accessories and games for sale as soon as they get them in.
xbair @ Dec 18th 2005 10:03PM
Ahh, I see what they're doing...
They're releasing these games to garner good reviews and a lot of hype so they'll come in hot on launch day for everyone else.
Stencil @ Dec 18th 2005 10:03PM
best buy offering games early? but for the last two games I wanted to buy there (We Love Katamari and Shadows of Colossus) weren't put out on the shelves till the Thursday after the Tuesday release dates. ???
Tasuki @ Dec 18th 2005 10:03PM
Did anyone see the date Nov. 15? thats right before Nintendo launches wi-fi with Mario cart DS.
mike @ Dec 18th 2005 10:03PM
nice MS to tell gaming nexus instead of announching it ;-)
all made up more like
Jim @ Dec 18th 2005 10:03PM
Mike, did you even click on the link? There are pictures.
Kevin @ Dec 18th 2005 10:03PM
Ok then. MS is not bullshitting anyone with a "Launch Window" it has been and still is a widely used industry term outlining the 8 to 10 weeks after a console launches. There is very little point putting 5 AAA titles out on day one as 3 out of the 5 will flop because your forcing people to choose and last time i check few people will have the money for 3 or 4 launch titles.
I will be happy to see the game so far listed in the launch window if one game aint there on day 1 as it needs to polished fine. The current in industry defintion is a launch title should be on day 1. Launch window is totally different .
So dont BS SickNic
DhurtyMack @ Dec 18th 2005 10:03PM
I also played Call of Duty 2. I played it on a widescreen setup at the IGN Live game show. Forget the kiosks, if you played it on a system that was setup properly, CoD2 is freaking amazing. The surround sound was awesome, graphically it was beautiful and smooth like butter. NFS looked like it could use some work, but would be an adequate holdover until PGR3 released. A lot of people are underestimating Kameo. That game looks pretty fun and graphically it is a step above this gen.
I am sad that Saint's Row, Oblivion, PGR3, and Ghost Recon were pushed back. But better they be pushed back and prettied up (GR was said to look much worse than the screenshots and video we saw) then hand us crud. Once people stop thinking that PD0 should be a Halo 2 killer, they will appreciate the game for what it is for.
Condemned WILL be the sleeper hit at launch.
shmoe @ Dec 18th 2005 10:03PM

Excellent, I won that Mountain Dew contest and the Football game I'm getting free doesn't do much for me.
