Japanese gaming legends talk "Revolution"
Have you ever wondered what Japanese developers thought about the
Nintendo Revolution? Well wonder no more, as IGN has a very comprehensive feature detailing the first hand opinions of
the biggest names in Japanese games development. The creators of Final Fantasy, F-Zero, Pac-Man, Harvest Moon,
Killer 7 and Pokemon all chip in to give their thoughts about Nintendo's latest.
Unsurprisingly they're all pretty hyped up by the console and its controller. Toshihiro Nagoshi, producer of F-Zero, doubts "that there's a creator who doesn't get tickled after getting their hands on this." Hironobu Sakaguchi, the father of Final Fantasy, captured the overall feelings around the console's controller: "When shown such a new concept, software makers are, even as just normal people, left excited." Nintendo can only be hoping that this excitement converts easily into a broad selection of fun and innovative game titles.

Hironobu Sakaguchi (Mistwalker -- father of Final Fantasy): "When I first saw it, I thought 'It's great!' and 'It's just like Nintendo!' It makes you feel like you're actually touching the screen. In that sense, you could say that it's an extension of the DS, but it's actually very different." Pointing out that the controller allows for a wide variety of actions, he adds, "When shown such a new concept, software makers are, even as just normal people, left excited."

I LOVE Mistwalker.

As they should be!

Once again, Joystiq is showing us how incredibly biased they are against Ninten.... DOH! Nevermind. Those idiots were wrong.

Hype it up - Gyroscope controller...cool (or not).
I'm pretty sure my Dreamcast fishing controller had something similiar...innovative!
I'm skeptical that this will ammount to more than just a gimmick. I hope I'm wrong.

I don't know what will ultimately become of the Rev controller and Nintendo's next gen, but when you read opinions like those above from some of the worlds gaming pioneers you can't help but admit there MUST be some serious potential to Nintendo's design. Anyone who makes silly claims like "gimmick", "power glove" or "tired arms" after reading articles like this must either think they know more about games than these masters, or else they are uber-fanboys incapable of seeing a system for its potential.
Admittedly, the Rev's success will require designers/developers to utilize the controller to its full potential but based on the feedback I've read from developers, it sounds like they can't wait to get their hands on it.
I have been eagerly awaiting all 3 consoles in the next gen and have been reading about them all quite a bit and I haven't seen nearly as many creative industry minds so excited about the revealed aspects of xbox360 or PS3 as they seem to be about Rev. I don't know if it will increase or decrease as more info comes out about the system. We'll see.

in what way are they biased? i see absolutely nothing wrong with this article. are you on drugs or something, or do you see some words that i dont?

SilverDogg, he was joking.
I'd be excited if I were a developer too. This is the first NEW thing in a long time. At least, the first new thing that's going to be marketed toward the videogame consuming masses. And it allows for some really great things to happen, I'm sure. I'm sure there have been developers saying for awhile now "I have this idea for this game, but it would only work if the controller worked THIS way..." and now, guess what, it does.
I think you'll be pleasantly surprised, Undertow, with how un-gimmicky it'll be. Many touted the DS as being a gimmick, but it's doing exceptionally well, and there's some of the best software available today specifically on that system. I think the same will happen with Nintendo's next system, only on a much larger scale.
Looking forward to seeing more.

Not too sure if I like the idea of a gyroscopic controller. The main thing Im anticipating with the release of the Rev is the old games. Bring 'em all back.
But just like any Nintendo fanboy I'll be buying the Rev the day it comes out. Unless, of course, the PS3 comes out anytime before it.
