That's great that they'll be short reviews. Personally I don't like reading all the long drawn out reviews that are on sites now a days. I like things to be short, sweet and to the point.

Good luck with this guys. :)

I know this is off topic, but wouldn't it be great if we proposed products to be invented?

I propose an HDTV with an integrated PS3 and a hard drive.

I also propose the same thing but with HD-DVD capability also, as well as 360 and revolution integrated on it.

That way not only do we review products, but we tell the companies what kind of products would we like or what do their products lack by us telling them what would we like on a product.

Every review is one-sided. Reviews are the opinions of the gamer who chose (or is chosen) to write his or her OPINIONS about the game.

However, I trust joystiq to do so in a judicial, educated manner. Game reviews are great, especially when I'm considering buying a title. I'll be at Joystiq more than the million times a day that I'm already visiting.

Looking forward to the changes, guys.

Give Dan a break. He played a demo. The game had serious technical flaws in that stage, ones that are now greatly improved. Have faith in The Choi- he will play the full game and fall in love with it, because it is impossible for someone to play the full game and not.

Unless Dan's some kinda robot. If so, what are your powers? Do you use them for good or for awesome?

You have brown on your nose Martez.

You should wipe it off.

"Mister Choi did nt like Colossus so I'm not so sure he is qualified to review anything outside the norm !!!"

It's true, daver, that I was not overly enamored of the Colossus demo. I felt it contained a lot of potential, though, so if I ever get my hands on the final game, maybe I'll get a chance to check it out further.

At the same time, there are many "abnormal" games out there that do strike my fancy: Katamari Damacy, DDR, Bust-A-Groove, Karaoke Revolution, Wario Ware, Taiko Drum Master, Super Monkey Ball, Viewtiful Joe, Alien Hominid, Disgaea, Advance Wars, and so on and so forth. My platforming preferences remain unchanged, however. =(

"So on this out of 10 rating what does Shadow's Colossus get ??? ;)"

Good question. If I review the full game, maybe I'll get to give more than my first impressions. Then again, based on those impressions, it might be helpful to hand off that game to someone else to review. Hope that helps, and thanks for the support, Martez! It's much appreciated.

The/Mister Choi =)

Is it some kind of sub concious thing that had you remove/noever put the Revolution in your list? You are spreading prejuduice against a system with great potential, much lke other websites who dont have a Rev link, but feel content with a PS3 link. I am (somewhat) outraged, especially comming from what claims to be an unbaised blog.

"You have brown on your nose Martez."

At least it's not dribbling out my mouth. Besides, no one in their right mind would consider that brown-nosing, especially since I wouldn't have anything to gain from it.

I always like it on eurogamer when they post a second opinion/review, when members of the team disagree about a game. Seeing as the reviews will be short....

Last time i checked 5 (or 50%) was a passing score, NOT 70. Halfway down the score list is more intuitive for a reader, plus it has the advantage of not forcing 'good' games into a range of 3 (7-10) and 'bad' games into 0-7.

Having '7' as an average score for a game is a misrepresentation at worse and a lie at best.

Also i think having .5 differentiations is a joke. What would the difference be between a 8.0 and an 8.5? Then again if you has a more rational rating system like above you shouldnt need a finer grained rating just to bulk out the possible scored.

I know you have to face the commercial realities, i.e you play an average game, you give it a 5, the other magazines give it a 7, publisher refuses to give you any more games cause you score so low. But seeing as it works for EDGE magazine and they are generally regarded as the most accurate reviews, it should work for everyone.

Otherwise i think the focus of the reviews sounds good... just please have another think over the 'score' system.

How will the reviews be sorted? Will they posted in the same manner as, well, current news articles on your website? Since games will be coming out pretty much all the time and in huge droves, a seperate (and searchable) review library would be a good idea.

I feel that a numeric system isn't the best way to go for Joystiq. It just doesn't feel like it'd be Joystiq's style. A grading system like "Decent, Awesome, Why are you reading this go buy it right now" sort of thing seems more appropriate. Not that I'm an expert on these sort of things...

Expect my application soon! :D

Allow me to elaborate.

Another problem with the numeric system is that people misinterpret it more and more. I used to be fine with a game that was a 7.5 when I was younger, and now I get iffy about a game when I see 9.0 (sad, I know). With the system I propose, it would seem that there is less of a chance of this happening. I'm speaking from frist-hand experience, though, so I'm not saying this applies to everyone.

It's probably pointless saying this (considering that no one is reading new posts on this page anymore), but in the paragraph describing your scoring system you misinterpreted the academic value of one of your numbers. Allow me to show you this:

A “70” is the minimum passing score (equal to a D-).

That score of "70" is equivalent to a "C-", not a "D-". I, for some reason, felt obligated to point that out.

Slacker -- we still read old comments!

Every school grades differently. I'm accustomed to 70 being the border between pass and fail.

Having 60 be the cutoff works too -- as it gives us more breathing room.
