I used to get worked up about stuff like this, but then it hit me, if MS crushes Sony next gen, I wont see any of the money. And if Sony continues to dominate, I wont see any of the money. And if Nintendo goes the way of Sega, I still have to go to work tomorrow.

It's the BBC. Remember that they leaked a photo of the Video iPod, which wasn't real. So I bet that this is 90% false. No way would Sony ever wait to release it that long. They woud be shooting them selves in the foot. PS2 released before Xbox, and Xbox sold like a lead balloon compared to PS2. I never trust the BBC.

Maybe Sept 2006, but not 2007.

You can pretty much clock the PS3 launch based on when the Revolution hits the market. If it's going to be a problem to launch this year, they should just drop PS2 compatibility already.

Dustin, that picture was never released by the BBC... It was from another source. All that was said on 6Music was that a Video iPod was going to be released by Apple, and guess what: It was. Whilst it isn't your typical random rumour created by a lonely forum user, and it has indeed been cut in, it is rather hard to believe. Still, it's easier to believe that most other rumours. I still think you over-reacted slightly there Jago, because the BBC is one of the most respected broadcasting groups in the world, their word typically has some weight behind it. Still, I think a Sony press release is the only thing that will squash this rumour.

360 is going to get a fair amount of people, while if nintendo can beat sony out the door, your going see the down fall of sony. They way i see it, 360 will get the people that want something new, and nintendo will get the people that want something is new and that wont cost them an arm and a leg or more. So whats left fo the PS3, well pretty much just fanboys, and we all know Nintendo is the only company that can live off fanboys alone.
But if nintendo misses the opertunity to strike, they will just get the fanboys and little kids.

It's certainly possible Europe wouldn't see the PS3 until 2007-- and considering how shipments have been staggerd worldwide in the past, it has a ring of truth to it. The US release is likely LATE 2006, say near Christmas, with only the Japan release occuring earlier.

Now if those estimated dates slip, then it means there some technical, monetary, or quantity issues at play.

Wasn't the idea of a 2007 release floated before by analysts?

Final dev kits will reportedly be available by December. Launching by Spring next year, while entirely possible, may be a bit ambitious.

Launch with too few finish titles, and you end up with the PSP-like situation.

Booger is right. Who cares who wins? One console selling more than another doesn't help us. The hot competition is what helps us. If MS or Nin make a dent in Sonys market share, They will have to fight to get it back by lowering prices or something. That will help us all. If MS and Nin weren't around do you think Sony would be willing to sell their consoles at a loss!?!? Hell no! Neither would MS. Here's hoping this console war gets really bloody and the gamers get a cheap meal.

I'm not thinking of getting a next-gen console soon anyway, so doesnt matter to me. I still dont think much of next-gen console, graphics are slightly above then current this gen games. Gameplay will be pratically the same, I dont see much going for next-gen except for its graphics.

At least this will give Sony time to create a more powerful version of the Xbox 360.

Hmm... I don't think Sony should go anywhere near the Xbox 360. It could be defective.

God only knows what the hell Microsoft is thinking. If the PS3 is coming out in 2007 (not saying it will), and the Rev is coming out Spring 2006 (as it says in the controller video)...

Then why the hell is Microsoft releasing the Xbox 360 in 2005?

Sheer stupidity. That is why.

ok how is it stupid although being 6+ months earlier will give them a chance to make their system much much better than the one that just came out.

Now I know you are crazy. Sony was caught off guard as usual, this is why they hyped up the PS3 at E3. They wanted you to wait and wait because they know some people will believe anything they tell them. The PS3 Dev Kits are running at 2.5GHz and SONY has not released the final ones to the developers, why? I do not think SONY can make a PS3 for under $599 if they release the PS3 in the Spring of 2006. Sony already had a horrible loss this quarter with the PS3 development cost which no one really looked at. The best thing SONY can pray is that simple minded fanboys will believe their stories. Sony has to wait until 2007 to perfect Blu-Ray and the Cell. I guess no one saw the monster Dev-kits back in July. Again, I do not think SONY has a true design for the PS3 or controller. Again, the PS3 that was shown had no vents for air. I guess using common sense is not in the cards for most people.

It works for me.
2005 - Xbox360
2006 - Revolution
2007 - PS3

This I think would be smart because if they wait the price of Blu-Ray will come down ALOT and make it so the PS3 isn't a $600 console.

But if could be a big mistake cause it would give MS and Nintendo a large lead which could cause more developers to leave and more PS2 users to switch cause they will be very discouraged with the PS2 vs Xbox360 and Revolution in quility. It was bad enought with PS2 vs Xbox and GameCube.

Thou it does also means that the Xbox3 will be coming out in 2010.

Nah,

There won't be an xbox 3. MS lost 4 billion on the first xbox. They are likely to lose 2-3 billion or so on the 360. Maybe more if Sony comes out at $399 too. It's highly unlikely that their stockholders will allow a third.

Release console 6 months before the competition and have the holiday shopping time all to yourself? Yeah, that's *real* stupid right there. J Allard and the rest of the Xbox execs should just go ahead and commit ritual suicide.

I really have no idea y it is stupid for the 360 to launch this year? Y is it stupid?

Can you even give a good reason?

If everythings ready, then y not. No use in waiting 3-6 months if all the harware and some good software is ready.

CrAzY American:

i'll tell you 'y'. the reason 'y' is because it really is shaping up to be the Xbox 1.5 (at least compared to what we're expecting to see from other next-gen consoles). 'y'? because it has no revolutionary features or even graphics that show a substantial improvement (yes i realize that those will get better, but really.. making things smoother and rounder for me isn't going to woo me for long).

the reason 'y' is because so far, besides the early release date in question, it has nothing to boast. it is, frankly, pwned by the raw power of the ps3 and the only thing different about playability from the first Xbox is a wireless controller that had a little makeover.

'y' is it that you Microsoft fanboys refuse to accept the fact that jumping into the race this early is a clear mistake. based on all evidence i've seen thus far, it's an inferior console.

that is 'y' launching this early is stupid. but whatever, it's no skin of my back.
