Earlier this year, GameStop.com launched a
clever,
money-scamming ploy product page for Zelda Revolution and offered gamers a chance to plunk down $60
to reserve their copy of a game that had barely been announced, but was listed by the retailer as being available on
March 1, 2006. Fast forward nearly five months later: you can now pre-order four additional vaporware Revolution titles
for the same phantom release date. Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, Mario Revolution, Metroid
Prime 3, and Super Smash Brothers: Revolution will all be lovingly reserved for you by GameStop for
another $240. How nice of them.
Each of these five franchises were announced back at E3 and confirmed by Famitsu for release on the Revolution, although official titles and release dates still don't exist today. Another top-selling Nintendo line, Pokemon, was conspicuously absent from that original press release, but not to worry! As soon as it's confirmed, GameStop will promptly update this page and gladly accept more of your hard-earned gaming money to make your collection of Revolution vaporware complete!

I think I'll put my money on the next Gamecube Zelda before the Revolution Zelda.

Yeah, really. Speculation is one thing, but generating false hope that games will come out on certain dates when they're still in development. Nowadays, the only release dates I trust are those posted in press releases and on Amazon (which tends to be reliable when it comes to release dates for preorders).

When you preorder something online you don't pay until the order ships.

Even when you preorder in the store, you only put down $5 or $10.
Stop making things sound so drastic. All Gamestop is doing is securing a future sale for a game that is likely to be created at some point, and making sure that a different store doesn't get their business. This is at Zero impact to the buyer; they're not forcing you to preorder, and they're not making you pay a dime. Well, I guess if you go to the store you'll put down $5 which, over a year, might lose you 50 cents in interest at one hell of a bank.

But those dates and prices are out of whack.

I'd hate to be one of the suckers that soon found out it was only £280.

It really doesn't, I'm just amused that they put the release date of the, newer, revolution zelda before the gamecube one. It's kinda like stating, hypothetically, that MGS4 will come out a month earlier than MGS3. Doesn't quite make sense does it? Just thought that idea was kinda amusing.
