Doom drops a staggering 120% in box office
This weekend marked the climactic downfall
of the Doom movie. After a modest $15 million opening weekend, Dateline Hollywood is
reporting a box office drop of 120%,
which would be of epic proportions (not to mention statistically impossible). Truth be told, according to Box Office
Mojo, Doom only declined
72.7%, bringing in ticket sales of $4.2 million. Still, that is an unbelievable shift; apparently everyone that was
curious got their fill last weekend.
Did anyone see the Doom movie twice? Or, better yet, what was your favorite quote?

It dropped 120%?
So ticket sales dropped to nothing, AND it somehow lost 20% of last week's revenues?
Matt @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Sort of reminds me of the AOL advert running these days in which a lady claims that spyware can slow down your PC 400%. Not quite sure how that works either...

Did any gamer even see this movie?
Oshi @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
I refuse to watch anything that has The Rock in it.
Spiffae @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Oshi,
I respect your point of view, as I used to feel like you did. The Rock must certainly be the worst actor ever, right? Making stupid movies for dumb people, right? Wrong. Watch The Rundown. The Rock has a charisma that is hard to match. He seems like a genuinely nice guy, whose acting range far surpasses most people working in action movies these days. Check out Be Cool if you don't believe me about his acting - the movie is forgettable and dumb, but The Rock is the one moment of greatness in that movie.
Either way, The Rock's action movies are fun and enjoyable much like early Arnold flicks. The actor brings a sense of fun and a physical charisma to every role, and I'd advise you to change your ways.
That said, I'm living in Japan now and haven't gotten to see Doom yet, seeing as there's no movie theater on my tiny island. Guess I'm waiting for DVD, as usual.
BD @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Hey, the Rock is damn fine! That's why I saw Doom.
CapAmerica @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
I've saw it twice since one set of friends didn't see it with the other. I liked the movie, I'm also a big fan of The Rock's movies.
If you liked the Resident Evil movies you'll like Doom.

I'm a gamer and I saw it. When it goes first person, I actually yelled out "HELL YES!"
Rhine @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Yes i saw the rundown great movie i actaully think the rock is a decent actor now
Matt @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
The Rock was highly successful in his days with the WWE (wrestling) mostly because he actually has a very care-free and humorous personality. That and he speaks English... let's see Arnold try that.
Ian Gibson @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
yea i saw the movie, when it was finally over all i could say was "eh". the story was alright, and the transition from scary horror to zombie action was kinda weird - definately worth a rental when it comes to DVD. I downloaded it through bit torrent, and I've watched it about 3 times now. It's not too good, but something about it just keeps bringing me back.... :)

It's because of Saw II. That was an awesome movie.

I hope some of you actually read the article. It's actually a joke. Select quotes include:
"According to industry tracker Exhibitor Relations, Doom is the first film to ever see its gross decline by more than 99.99%, a mark set in 1997 by Batman and Robin."
and
"It doesnt seem possible that a movies gross could drop more than 100%, but somehow Doom seems to have done it."
They also joke Tom Cruise in the beginning. I can't believe this made "news"
dusda @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Joystiq, the article was a satirical joke. Heh, I didn't quite catch it till I did a double take...

The Rock is really starting to come in on his own as an actor, dont be blinded by the fact that he used to be a wrestler.
And Doom had no chance against Saw 2, which is the best horror movie ive seen in a while.

Hey now..I hate bad acting as much as the next guy, which is why I didn't go see Doom..It just looked like a movie that focused way more on action than char. development..But Mr. Rock was very good in Be Cool..which sucked, by the way..He totally stole the show..He looks to have some range, just not in movies where the scripts are full of one-liners and egregious plots.

"we kill them, and let god sort them out"
something like that. the rock said it.
he was a big meanie in that movie.
i saw it after i saw SAW II with my friend (double feature, so we only paid for saw2) and i would have been dissapointed if i paid for it, but i didnt, so its ok.
BUT SAW II WAS AMAZING.
go see it now.

Spiffae,
I never said anything about his acting abilities or anything of that nature. I merely stated that I refuse to watch anything with him in it. Now if I haven't seen any of his films there isn't anyway I could critique his acting can I?
I've watched a lot of movies over the years and recently (for about 2 years at least) I have been watching a lot of Korean movies. Mainly to take a break from the normal Hollywood movies that are on TV and at theatres every day.

Doom: ill dl it, i wont pay to watch it.

Joystiq found actual decline of profits to be 72.7%, which is a HUGE declince. Did Uwe Boll direct this crapfest?
