Take Two announces new GTA title for PSP
Take 2 Games revised their
revenue earnings for the fiscal years 2005
and 2006 today, and faster than you can say 'franchise dilution' comes word that a "new Grand Theft Auto title" will
appear on the Sony PSP during the fiscal 2006 year.
The company has announced a reduced net sales expectation of approximately $1.18 billion for the fiscal year ending
today, and a forecast of $1.4 billion for the fiscal year ending October 31, 2006. Liberty City Stories has
received high (or highly inflated) acclaim lately, so it
is no surprise that a sequel is being planned - any game with Grand Theft Auto will sell like hotcakes, right?
I guess that's how Rockstar "'consistently avoids' the
trap of creating shameless and unoriginal ripoffs."

Well, it's one of the things that Nintendo's been doing with their franchises -- Zelda in particular as of now -- so I'm not surprised. =/

I have my GTA:LCS... But I can't play it til I get my Giga Pack on Tuesday...
And they already announced another GTA.
Kick...............ASS!

Are you sure this is referring to ANOTHER new Grand Theft Auto game for PSP (not Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories)? The wording on there seemed vague to me, but I would think the "two previously announced Rockstar Games titles for the PSP" were GTA:LCS and Midnight Club 3. Were there other games that they announced that I missed?
If this is the revelation of another new PSP GTA game, then that's very good news for PSP fans!

Andrew: You're totally right. I mean, every single Zelda game so far has been the exact same game with different skins. It's really comparable to GTA.
...wait.

How many is this in a generation (is the PSP separate or not)?
I think someone's gonna have to start a tally.
Does anyone know how many Madden games there are?

maybe Rockstar will just drop the subtitle and start calling them Grand Theft Auto 2006, Grand Theft Auto 2007, Grand Theft Auto 2008, ect

why not have a subscription service where Sony PSP owners just log onto a website and play a Flash game where they beat someone with a baseball bat...you could have the Sopranos theme song running in the background...
Sweeeet!!

What a completely unfair comparison. How can you expect them to expand visually upon a game that so heavily relies on a completely 3d world? You guys are acting as if it's even conceivable for GTA to be reincarnated as a side-scroller, or a platformer, or an FPS. It has to remain the same game as it has always been, and if they ever go back to the simple top-down view it will be a step backwards.
Also, I can see why people think this is their window of opportunity to point out that Nintendo simply rehashes old franchises.. just stop. You know that if GTA started out as a PC game, half of these so-called "new games" would simply be released as expansion packs or updates.

While I greatly enjoy Liberty City Stories, it really just sounds rediculous to me for them to create a sequel so early on. However, I guess what's what happens when the only two games you make are an unpopular, quickly discontinued racing game, and a repetitive, taken-off-the-shevles-because-Hilary-Clinton-is-having-hot-flashes, cop-killing game. Oh, and "The Warriors", which is supposedly semi-decent, but still looks like more of the same.
Alex @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
It's great if they come out with another, but let's hope this doesn't turn into another mediocre annual game like tony hawk and many others alike have become. ... If you're going to wip games out that fast... They better be damn good.

"You know that if GTA started out as a PC game, half of these so-called "new games" would simply be released as expansion packs or updates."
Actually, it did.
"The original Grand Theft Auto was released on the PC in early 1998."

Perhaps I should have clarified. What I meant was not that all Zelda games were clones of one another -- because they're not -- but that Nintendo is putting out more Zelda games than ever before. Look at the time window between Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time. That's a lot more than that of Wind Waker and Four Swords.
Actually, that's an unfair comparison, seeing as how Four Swords isn't truly a "real" Zelda game.
Okay, so I guess what I'm saying is that there just seems to be a lot more Zelda games coming out every so often. Obviously, it happens. But it's happening a lot more now than before. Twilight Princess isn't even out yet and people are already talking about a Rev/DS incarnation. It's just silly.
