Can't stand losing your standing in Halo 2 because
the rest of your team members either disconnected or couldn't hold their own in a fight? Then the new TrueSkill
ranking system in the 360 version of Xbox Live might be for you.
TrueSkill "takes into account the average skill of a gamer and the degree of uncertainty of the gamer's skill,
calculating the numbers together to create a ranking," and it "measures the skill of the player regardless of which
team won" as well.
Even if you are not impressed by
the theoretical underpinnings of
the unified matchmaker (hope you took prob-stat), at least you can rest in the knowledge that there are PhD's not only
designing our game systems of the future, but also sniping us amidst all the Live kiddies and griefers.
