Oblivion officially delayed to Q2 2006
Besides revealing a possible new GTA for the PSP, Take-Two's guidance for
fiscal 2006 also officially sealed the delay of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion to the second quarter, a period
from February to April of next year.
While that time period could technically encompass the 14-week launch window for the Xbox 360, it's still a few months
later than the originally expected release date. Click
here for the company press release.
The removal of Oblivion from Take-Two's (November?) launch lineup leaves the publisher with only sports
titles to distinguish itself on the 360 this fall: NBA 2K6, NHL 2K6, Amped 3, Top Spin
2, and College Hoops 2K6.

Wow... guess i'm not getting a 360 in 2005.
jimmy @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
AW, CRAP!!!
this sucks, it was the only game i was looking forward to dammit.
Robert @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Sweet. Now I can hold off buying a 360 until the price drops. I guess the old original Xbox will have to keep chugging along until then.
yay @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Hah, I told everyone at the 360 gamefaqs boards that this was going to happen, but no one listened to me. They all said I was a doo doo head. :(
Sense @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
*inhales deeply*
.....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
I just finished watching the previews for it in the latest Xbox Magazine DVD. Aw man, that hurts. It hurts so bad.
sandro @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
That was the only nextgen game for the xbox360. I guess I'll hold on till PS3 is out (March 2006)*-)
Till then, I'll play xbox and PS2
funkyflea @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
OH.....FFS!!!!! SCREW THIS
delerious @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
OOOOHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! More time to sex it up!
Doesn't really matter for me, I won't be getting a 360 till I get a car....and a 360 costs almost half the price of a half-descent used one.
Giddieon @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Another Delay for launch games big surprise there... Microsofts only good looking game gets the delayed... this launch is going to suck...
Maybe MS should have wait instead of rushing to the market...
This will be one of the wordt launches ever...
Matt @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo, Gun, Call of Duty 2, Quake 4, and Project Gotham Racing 3 all look pretty good, so I wouldn't say the launch is "screwed" or "sucks". All this means is that we'll all have $62.99 more to spend on a controller, or a Play and Charge Kit.
Matt @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
hahahaha
count it
JRM @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
MS keeps dropping the ball--and they haven't even launched yet! Not a good sign. It feels like the dreamcast all over again
jimmy @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
10. This launch is pretty crappy, most of those titles can run decent on a middle of the road pc.
Perfect Dark look mediocre.
Call of Duty, Kong and Quake 4 are avaliavble on PC or other platforms and are not total system hogs.
Gotham Racing 3 looks impressive though
mudcrab @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
SUCKASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is just plain irresponsible. They say they want to delay the release to meet our expectations of the game. WTF were they thinking? That when we saw all the screenshots 6 months ago that we weren't going to be expecting a kickass game?!?
This makes me so angry. Screw you Take-Two. Pull your head out of your collective ass and stop yanking the chains of the people paying your salaries.
Where's Bethesda in all of this?
zakchase @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Yep, this is the only game that had me considering getting a 360 at launch. Now I think I'll just wait until '06 to pick one up and have a ball with Dragon Quest VIII in the meantime.
DJ @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Ummmm... It isn't Microsoft's fault that these companies decide to delay THEIR game titles. Microsoft doesn't own everything you know. Besides... the 360 is more than just a gaming console - so I feel it will still do very well.
Einhanderkiller @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
I now have no reason to get an XBOX 360.
Cletus @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
I was so looking forward to becoming a hermit over my 3-week Christmas break...dammit. Maybe I'll pick up Kameo or something. Fuck.
*loads the chamber of the revolver*
jimmy @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM

It's microsofts fault the selection at launch sucks ass. Just like it was Sony's fault when PS2 software sucked at launch.
And what marketing rep convinced you it was more than just a videogame system. Media capabilities aside its a box made to play videogames.
Brutal @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
BUMMER!!!!!
Gamas @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Hmmm... definitely another reason to take a 'wait and see' approach on this console.
Clayton @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
The press release from Take Two says it's going to be in Q2 of their FISCAL YEAR, which is Jan-Mar, not Q2 2006.
Dan Choi @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Yes, Clayton, the second quarter of Take-Two's fiscal year is from February to April, and not the period from April to June. I hoped the use of the "Q2" terminology in the title and a more in-depth explanation in the first paragraph of the body were sufficient to show that. Both periods overlap by a month, but 3-month seasonal and quarterly windows can often be quite confusing, whether stated by retailers, developers, or publishers/corporate entities. Sorry if my post was not as clear as you would have liked.
Mark B @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Well, that leaves Project Gotham Racing 3 as the only launch-game worth getting.
Too bad that PGR3 seems to be hyped up for the online gamers and we all know how small the minority will be that uses the overrated Xbox Live.
I mean, come on now. Has everyone forgotten that only 10% of Xbox users actually used Xbox Live?
Just another reason to wait for a system price drop in 2006. Better yet, wait for the new systems from Sony and Nintendo.
Laughing Man @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Wow. That really does seal the deal for me. No Xbox 360 in 2005. This is the only game on it that looked impressive to me from a gameplay point of view.
Glad they're taking the time to get it right, though. I wish that was consolation to you who are really bummed by this.
But to whoever was the idiot in whatever thread saying that they would be playing Oblivion experiencing gameplay I couldn't even imagine on launch day; and thus I was a moron for suggesting waiting on the 360, well eat your words now.
Seriously, given what we've heard, are you prepared to spend $500 for Project Gotham Racing?
Sense @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Seriously, Xbox LIVE is the best thing ever. Especially when all you're gaming buddies have grown up and moved out of state. I wouldn't call it overrated to have human competition 24/7. And until someone else comes up with something better, I'm happy with LIVE.
I'm still bummed about Oblivion though. Call of Duty is fun, so maybe I'll get that. I was hoping for something a little more Next-Gen though. Hopefully Kameo (which I have pre-ordered) will surprise me.
Osiris @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Why the fuck do they get our hopes up with release date like 'Holiday 2005'. I would rather they over estimate so that we are pleasantly surprised when we find they can release it earlier than mentioned. I am NOT pleased.
This had better mean they are fixing all the animation issues.
prooie @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Lame. Was the only title I really looked forward to.
Nick @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
damn dude, i was so waiting for this game, especially since ive picked up morrowind again the last month, but at least we all know that theyre not half assing the thing, oblivion will be one of the best games ever, i cant wait. but ill still probably get the 360 this holiday, there is still a few games worth playing, such as call of duty, which ive played a demo for and is really cool.
Captain James Skull @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Does this include the PC version?
if it does, i'll be pissed.
Christopher7xii @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
I'd assume the PC version as well, since it's the same game and it wouldn't make sense to delay one. Also...
"Microsoft doesn't own everything you know."
hahaha.... you keep believing that #15. I agree, it's not their fault developers slack off, but MS must not be paying them enough if they're willing to delay the game.
Paul Atreides @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
There you go...there was 1 game that looked next gen among the launch titles, and it's delayed until next year...
FCK that.
Now, I will wait to buy the 360. It's looking more and more like the 1.5.
Pseudo @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Wow. I'm not that excited about getting an Xbox 360 anymore. Nothing like getting pumped about a AAA title and then getting another letdown. Please, developers; publishers, don't talk release dates until it's good and ready. To me, this game really stood out this holiday season and was a good testament to how future generation titles would look and play like. I can't say that I will be as interested in this title 2-3 months from now....Oh well. Off to cancel my reserve.
Dan Choi @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Captain James, this delay does apply to the PC version as well. I'll add that info to the original post's platform/genre categories.
Slashbunny @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Only game I was interested in. Of course I plan my PC upgrade soon, so I wouldn't get an 360 for this anyways. I'll just get the PC version.
Doc @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Aw damnit.
I only wanted in on PC in any case but well damn, I was really looking forward to that shit. I just picked up morrowind a couple of months ago and have been slogging through it on and off. Of course this might actually give me time to finish it.... maybe. But it would have been nice to be able to grab it at a discount at boxing day sales.
AssassinAoW @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Uhhh, all you guys saying "guess Im not getting a 360 at launch" werent getting one at launch anyway if you havent pre-ordered. EB games here in town says shipment 1 and 2 are sold out and shipment 3 wasnt untill Feb. Unless of course your talking the infamous Micro$oft lauch "window" =)
Im still getting mine at midnight on the 22nd and "Condemed: Criminal Origens" looks fuggin groovy. Besides I HAVE to get somthing NOW cause my PS2 broke AGES ago and my xbox HDD died about 2 weeks ago. Halo 2 and Battlefront 2 on my 360, no problem. Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo, Gun, and NBA 2k will hold me over till March when Gear of War drops. Then I get Oblivion and god knows what else by then. Then Before you know it you have N3, and Halo 3, Fortza motors 2, a new KOTOR Game, Blue Dragon... you get the point.
Hmmm I think I just convinced myself that the launch wont be bad. Surly I will have plenty to do with my 360 till the PS3 and Revolution come out... Wonder how I will pay for them both if they come out at the same time.
KilgoreTrout XL @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Just cancelled my pre-order, #37, so there!
Too much great stuff for XBox anyways right now. I'm loving KUF: Heroes, Stubbs, FIFA 06 and, yes, Halo 2. Half-Life 2 (which I never got to play) is coming out soon too. The 360 games look pretty sweet, but they'll look the same in three months.
Whether or not this delay was in fact caused by finances or what, I hope Beth does the right thing and polishes the hell out of it. It'll be a great game, and I can't wait to play it.
There's just no sense in plunking down money on a 360 bundle with games I don't want right now.
