Itoi: Mother 3 for GBA is "nearing release"

Earthbound/Mother creator Shigesato Itoi has long been in development on a secret project. Mother-obsessed fans have been deciphering his website and words for clues, but today Itoi dropped the bomb: in his own (translated) words, "Mother 3 for Game Boy Advance is nearing release." Unfortunately, that is all the news he will give, as he is "probably going to stay quiet about Mother 3 until just before its release."

There are very many questions to be answered: is Ness returning? Why not make the game for Nintendo DS? And, most importantly, will we see a US version of the game?

To all this, Itoi simply requests, "please forget about [the game] again for a short while." We wish everyone (ourselves, included) good luck trying to forget this.

Nintendo's been so good about localizing more "obscure" titles lately, so I hope that continues with this one. We're getting Electroplankton and Super Princess Peach... with the following that the Mother series has here, this should be a no-brainer.

If they bring Mother 3 to America, then where the hell is Mother 1+2? Also, Mother 1+2 is number one on the December '05 Nintendo Power list of good games to import. If there are plans to bring the game to America, it wouldn't be good to import.

Still. Just the very existence of Mother 3 is excellent news.

You know, I really wish this was on one of the main consoles. I LOVE Earthbound but I don't know that I can bring myself to buy a GBA just to play it. :'(

I heard about this yesterday, and, I have waited 4 years for the N64 version, nd four more years of constant rumor and speculation. All I can say is FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!

Mother 2 = Earthbound, one of the most fun rpg's I have ever played - for super nes. Mother 1 was never released in North America.

Mother 2 was not very popular as it was a strange theme for an RPG, aliens sort of invade the earth and you have to run around fighting crows, snakes, dogs, and mini piles of vomit.

Still very fun.
