Nintendo has announced its plans for a Europe wide network of free hotspots for DS players. The plan also
specifically outlines the deal that UK gamers will get. In total, Nintendo will make available 15,000 Wi-Fi networks
over Europe, with 7,500 of them in the UK alone. In deals with Wi-Fi hotspots like The Cloud and BT Openzone, DS
players will be able to log on and play online games for free.
This is excellent news for UK gamers. The companies that Nintendo has partnered with are two of the biggest providers
of hotspots in the UK, meaning gamers will be able to get online in a lot of locations. Personally I know of at least
two convenient locations (not fast food chains) within a 5
minute drive that, under the new Nintendo Wi-Fi program, would allow players to log on for free. It's quite a welcome
surprise to see UK gamers are being treated equally — if not better — than their stateside or Japanese peers.
