Eurogamer had the privilege to talk to some of the "higher
members of the Blizzard hierarchy," and have an interesting write-up of their discussions. Everyone, including
those who live under a rock, are familiar with Blizzard by now: they are the magical gaming company who have never made
a bad game; it seems like every title they have put out has seen monumental success. With World of Warcraft
bringing in millions of dollars of revenue each month, where does the company go next?
You can read the Eurogamer recap for more information, but the gist is that Blizzard is very interested in
next-generation consoles, wants to maintain its current universes (Starcraft, Warcraft, Diablo), but would
make a new universe if it better fit a game in development. Blizzard would like to do its part to make gaming "more
mainstream," suggesting at feature-length films for all the franchises. We would not be surprised if they had already
started work on these, as the cinematics in their games have always been phenomenally gorgeous (remember the end of the
Orc campaign in Warcraft III? Beautiful).
What would you like to see from Blizzard next? Starcraft on the Nintendo DS? Diablo III? A sequel to
Rock n' Roll Racing or the Lost Vikings for next-generation consoles? Blizzard seems to be pretty
busy with the Burning Crusade expansion, but maybe they can grace us with another smash hit by 2007.
