Are you a member of Club Nintendo in Japan, and have about 399
rank points under your belt? Go buy anything Nintendo-related, because members of Club Nintendo with at least 400
points will receive, coupled with a Nintendo-themed calendar, their very own Nintendo Revolution
television remote controller.
Imagine, the power to turn your TV on, adjust the volume, change the channel - all with the press of a button. So it
may not be much, but an exact replica of the Nintendo Revolution controller is nice to have all the same.
Unfortunately, this deal is not being offered for North American members of Club Nintendo, but there is always a chance
it might in the future.
When the real Revolution comes out, take care not to confuse the TV remote for the actual controller - nobody ever won
Smash Bros. simply by muting the sound.
Nintendo to give out Revolution TV remotes

I would love to have one of those to fool my friends. And also for the purposes of just having one.

I had hoped the actual revolution controller would double as a programable remote. I'm still holding my breath for an announcement.

Now that's a marketing strategy. Make the actual Revolution controller a universal remote... now everyone will use it and it will never leave the table.

Why is it funny? It is no accident that the revolution controler looks like a remote. It is intentional because it is the most familiar tool for interacting with the tv...so it is most unintimidating.

i like the ideas of 5 and 8 best, if the real controller doubled as a universal remote it would go incredibly far towards nintendos goal of bringing in new gamers

I am not sure I will have my questions answered here :) but....
What's stopping MS or Sony coming up with a similar controller for X360 or PS3?
They could do that if they see the Revolution to be gaining popularity. Right?
Or does Nintendo have enough patents to protect this under their belt?
