The resurrected Family Guy cartoons just don't seem "next-gen" to me. I think Fox rushed them out to beat the new NBC cartoon that's coming out next Fall.

Stewie as Yoda...priceless.

What NBC cartoon? Fox pretty much owns the market for primetime animated shows...all the snoozefest drama and 50 million variation CSI shows should stay on the other channels.

You do realize that Bloo's comment was a clever bit of sarcasm using the typical comments of forum posters dogging MS about the 360....right?

Hooray for the Tom Kurbis Big Band! I loved Police Squad! (in color).

Great opening sequence - I applauded the Doom reference. I have a feeling that's probably the best use of the game we're likely to see on small or big screens this year....

i would think hollywood would have the resouces to capture the video. Instead they try to fiddle with the wire setups. i mean really... the snes only has regular rca cable output or coaxial output.

Sorry but u need to update again, or at least remember this bit of info. Police Squad is the Naked Gun. The Naked Gun movies are based off of the Police Squad television show. Didn't last long but they flipped it into a series of movies later on. I remember watching them after the first movie came out. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083466/

Well to be a REAL stickler, the title of the movie is 'The Naked Gun: From the files of Police Squad!'

And the montage of odd rear-projection footage was ORIGINALLY done in the film 'Airplane!' when Rex Kramer drives to the airport.

Hahahahaha what?

http://media.putfile.com/Family-Guys-PTV-Episode-Introduction

It is a solid FACT that that is NOT the Super Nintendo version of Doom.

And those sound effects are NOT sound effects that are found in ANY Doom port, they've been tacked on.

Yeah, I know what I'm talking about, that's episode 1 level 2 and from the resolution and framerate I'd say that's some source port, likely ZDoom.

So that must mean he actually made up that entire dumb story (spending a week wiring up the SNES? What the fuck, I was 11 when I did that on my own). That's just hilarious.

A little correction in the article might be appropriate, and maybe a mention of how Dan Povenmire is just fucking with us.

Actually, joystiq, your wrong about them doing an atypical intro once before, they've done it TWICE before, sometimes during the 2nd or 3rd season, on the ep where Brian goes to hollywood (after beating his cocaine addiction), they do their first atypical intro parodying a bunch of random movie scenes (Episode 30: Brian Does Hollywood, after Episode 29: The Thin White Line). normally I wouldn't nit pick, but the first one they was pretty great too.

and god yes, that was the best episode since it's return.

Let me restate what has been said already:
"It is a solid FACT that that is NOT the Super Nintendo version of Doom.
And those sound effects are NOT sound effects that are found in ANY Doom port, they've been tacked on."

I have a lot of experience with doom. Anyone who has played doom recently, seen SNES doom, and tried a sourceport (to upgrade framerate and resolution) can plainly see that this is not SNES doom. If it was, the resolution would be around 320x200, and the framerate would be at least half of what it was. Also, I'm pretty sure the monsters would be missing some rotations.

And again, I use a comment previously made:
"A little correction in the article might be appropriate, and maybe a mention of how Dan Povenmire is just fucking with us."

Wasn't the intro music when Stewie's ridin the bike from some old show called "Get Smart"? I think Get Smart was before Police Squad wasn't it? Anyway I don't care which version of Doom it was, it was still neat-o.

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but the Naked Gun/Police Squad thing is a pointless debate. The full title of Naked Gun is The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!. The characters are derived. The intro is the same in the movie as in the show because it is the same. Sheesh.

Yes. Get Smart is older than Police Squad, but given that the Zuckers/Abrahms team is not shy about "borrowing" techniques, I wouldn't be surprised if we should give Get Smart the credit.

j: No, the music is from The Naked Gun movies... which is probably why the intro is credited to it rather than the other shows mentioned by other commenters.

Yes, "Police Squad!" was the original, and after only six episodes in the early 80s, it was resurrected as the "Naked Gun" movie series. The awesome music used in the opening was by Ira Newborn. "Get Smart" was late 60s, and while it was a wonderful show, the intro to it has nothing to do with the intro to Police Squad or the Family Guy episode.

You young punks should stop babbling about TV shows that you've obviously never seen. Yes, "Get Smart" is older than "Police Squad"/"Naked Gun" -- by about two decades. And no, we shouldn't "give Get Smart the credit" for this "Family Guy" parody. The titles of "Get Smart" did not even slightly resemble it.

Fer Chrissakes, people, go rent the DVD of the first "Naked Gun" movie. The music used in the fight scene and titles of this "Family Guy" episode was EXACTLY THE SAME as in the opening sequence of that film. Do you really need a more obvious clue than that?

Jago: way to miss the point.

Nobody cares which version of Doom they used, the point was that we're wondering why he made up some useless bullshit story about buying a console and game off ebay and spending weeks to hook it up. Does he think it'll make him look, uhh..."l33t"?

Also, who the hell keeps deleting my post? It's not saying anything I haven't said in my previous post up there.

"WHO CARES WHERE THE CAPTURE OF DOOM CAME FROM!!! It's doesn't matter!!!"

Obviously, Dan Povenmire cares enough to waste his time making a public statement about him spending OH SO LONG to get that capture of doom, when all he really did was grab a port of pc doom and get a video of it...
And obviously the person who wrote this article cares, and should be properly informed because who wants to read lies?
And apparently, everyone here cares, for reading through the article.

One thing I forgot to say, that I've now learned, SNES doom's wall textures were replaced with solid colours. So that only reinforces that it's not SNES doom.

Maybe he wants to make it look like he worked hard in at least one part of that intro, where just about every idea is a copy from something else (no disrespect to his animation skills).

If you read Dan Povenmire's post carefully, he says that he used the SNES version for the animatic, not the final show. Whatever wiring set-up he's talking about was presumably for getting whatever port they used to video for the final animation.

If that's true, then it's even more reason for Joystiq to update the article because it's their error, not Povenmire's.

Though I don't really understand why they would go through all that trouble for the animatic when just using a TV-out would have been simpler.

But yeah, not that it really matters now as the article is old.
