Jet Li to star in Tekken movie
According to China Economic Net, Jet Li is set to star as "the
boxer" in the upcoming (and "unannounced")
film adaptation of Tekken. Charles Stone (Drumline & Mr 3000) is signed on to direct
the flick, which also features Vicky Zhao (as Ling Xiaoyu), a rising Chinese star. Any chance this'll be worth the
price of admission?
[Thanks, bandersnatch]

Huh...isn't the boxer in Tekken a white guy?
robotplague @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Drumline and Mr. 3000 director....why oh why do video game adaptations always have to be so lame. I'll be shocked if this turns out to be halfway decent.

I dont see how tekken movie will work, I just cant picture it. There really isnt much of story in the games.
Lectoid @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Actually I was thinking he was black, but that's Balrog from the SF series. Fortunatly I was lucky enough to catch the Street Figher movie on Spike last night. That movie is so bad it's good.
Here is a link I found for the boxer, Steve Fox.

Ehh.. If they've cast Jet Li as Steve Fox, I'll never watch this movie..
Uy Tran @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Maybe they cast Jet Li as the kangaroo boxer.
Kevin @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
they already made a tekken adaptation in hong kong. it was horrible!
shouldn't they be getting jackie chan and some bruce lee imitation to star in the movie?
psmax @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
im pretty sure he will be either Kazuya or Jin Kazama.
Dan @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Actually, robotplauge, Drumline got generally pretty good reviews getting a 63 on metacritic and a 77 on rottentomatoes. Mr. 3000 wasn't as good according to the critics, but it wasn't universally panned either getting a 57 on both of those sites.
So what does that mean? Probably not all that much but I wouldn't worry so much over the director. True, the movie isn't getting a Spielberg but he's not a Uwe Boll either.
Badle @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Shouldn't he be cast as Marshall Law? or Li? *Sarcasm* Man I hope they cast Dwayne Johnson */Sarcasm* *sigh* Every time they cast the "Rock" a kitten is dragged into the street and beaten.
Dan @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
And I'd be a little suspect of the article's meaning of "the boxer." They describe Tekken as a "three-D wrestle game" and the tournament as a "boxing competition." Hmm... chinese boxing perhaps?
gwangi @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
But who will play KUMA? Rosanne Barr?
Engo P @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
They need the guy who played 'Ting" in Ong Bak...that's a serious martial artist. Also, to play as the jeet kun do user in tekken, they can get the afro dude who wore a black suit in Ong Bak as well. I doubt there would be a problem with using skilled fighters for the movie.
anan @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
In the picture, he looks like a BelAmi model.
spinninnzen @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Jet Li and Zhao Wei??? Im interested.
Sense @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Just to clarify, what we consider to be martial arts/kung fu is often translated as "boxing." For example in Drunken Master, Jackie Chan is said to practice "Drunken Boxing" not "Drunken Kung Fu."
So boxing could be just about anything.
sifun @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
That would be extremely strange as steve fox, but I think he'd do a great Feng Wei or wang jinrei.. I mean they're both mandarin speakers too in common.. :D

This movie will gonna be nice if they'll gonna make this a fully animated and graphical effects... Jet Li as Steve Fox? Isn't it that it will be nicer if Jet Li will be cast as Jin Kazama as a Lead Actor? because he is a Chinese and not an American... A Martial Artist and not a Boxer... looks like Jet Li will be more fit to act as Jin I think...
