Online gaming addicts living in the Malaysian city of Subang Jaya
are about to clash with a few authority figures. Beginning next year, all Internet cafes will need a license for online
gaming, must set up a separate area for online gamers, and at midnight must close its online gaming section. The city
will "deploy teams of officers to check on popular Internet spots."
Seem a bit harsh? The law came into effect because of a mother who could not find her son, only later to discover he
had been playing games at a local cafe for 48 hours - and she never thought to look there at any point in those 48
hours. According to the BBC article, some proprietors of the plan "believe the move will cut crime." Were kids playing
MMORPG's at night really causing a lot of crime? How would you feel if you had an online gaming curfew, and what would
you do to pass the time?
[thanks, bandersnatch]
