Neversoft has spent seven years on a strict diet of Tony Hawk, so it's no wonder that for their latest
title, the Neversoft team chose to explore a time long before anyone had ever dreamt up a recreational board with
wheels. Enter: the Wild West and a game called, GUN. Alas, it's hard not to compare a free-roamer to
GTA. That being said, if you're gonna make a game about the Wild West—a decidedly barren
place—you'd best fill it with things to do and time to waste. Unfortunately, GUN isn't packed with
enough firepower and winds up feeling short and a bit rushed.
Review highlights:
-
GamingTrend (88/100) - "Ultimately, the ride is over fairly quickly. While you can continue to ride and play the side missions after you complete the story arc, you'll have very little compulsion to do so. What saves the game is that the main storyline, regardless of the length, is fantastic."
-
IGN (80/100) - "You'll love this game for about a day and a half… it's a great rental that's worth your while, even if that while is a little short."
-
Team Xbox (78/100) - "It's tough to recommend GUN at its full sticker price for what it is, and that is an excellently told, eight-hour story wrapped up in the guise of an action videogame masquerading as a Western."
