Xbox 360 allocations for Best Buy by store
Wanna know how many Xbox 360s are coming to your local Best Buy? Find your store number(s) off
Best Buy's official store
locator, then check out the list for the right store for you to
camp out next to on the 22nd or 21st.
Of course, knowing how many units have been allotted to the store of your choice doesn't guarantee you a system on
launch day, but it is touching to know that being an official launch sponsor does indeed mean more boxes at launch than
the other guys (up to possibly a tenth of total U.S. numbers).
So if these figures are correct, Best Buy's getting 40,770 systems in the U.S. total, split exactly 70-30 among Pro
and Core systems. And as for those few anomalous stores with at least 100 Pro and 30 Core units? Just those among the
12 Best Buys around the nation slated to open their doors at
midnight to sell the 360. #311
up there's in Burbank, Illinois. Good luck, all you early adopters! [UPDATE: Xbox.com's link is down. Try

55 pro for my store. Getting one from walmart though, just so I can get one at midnight :-D
Xbox 360 News @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Not many for my stores... :(
Gotta camp out early.
The1 @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
The people over at the XBOX.COM forums posted this first.
GOD @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Another store (not best buy) near my house is gonna have them at mid-night. But in case I can't get one there, Best buy is my back up. My local one will have 42 pro. So I think my chances of having one on launch day are pretty good. :)
109 @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Which 12 stores are open at midnight?
Dom @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
So only 12 Best Buys are going to be opening at midnight?
Dan Choi @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Hey, The1. If you've got a link to the original post, I'd love to put it up. All I've got from the TeamXbox forums is a profile for dopeboyfresh67:

Registering for a Passport/Gamertag can be pretty involving, however.

I live in Chicago. I can confirm that store 311 in Burbank is called "Ford City". A low income area, where there have been gun fights in the mall food court across the street. It's also one of the most run down branches of their franchise that I have ever visited. Store 311 is about 30 min from Downtown Chicago. I find it strange that they would allocate so many units to a low income area, whereas there are TWO Best Buy's in the near north side of Chicago, 5 min from each other in a higer income community.
Alvin @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Im going to get someone to pretend to have a heart attack inside the store.
While people rush to gather around the "dead" body, Ill be first in line. That'll show em.
Nicholas Cifuentes @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Toys R Us opened up pre-orders last week. I nabbed mine and got it for launch day. No need to wait or rush to the store..though--I def. will be that morning. I also am shelling out $600 for it--I guess I am paying for it in another way.

Well, maybe some of those poor minorities have some coins. I live in Hyde Park and I think the store is OK. It's the Ford City Mall that sucks.

Nice! My local store's number is 360!!
Not so nice: They are only getting 40 systems. I'm glad i was first to preorder at gamestop. This launch will be tough for the procrastinators...
Dan Choi @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Thanks for the link, The1. I'll update the post!
mike @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
My local besbuy is getting 226 xbox 360's .. while the other one is geting 82..
Oh i dont know where to go now :S
tadow @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
I am one of those "poor minorities" that used to live in chicago and have family in the southside. I have my 360 preordered and ready ago, with enough money left to feed my kid and wife. unless I end up selling my 360 for crack rock. Just because its a low income area doesn't mean people shouldnt be able to buy whatever they want. Take your scared ass out their and buy one. trust me us negro's dont bite.
Then again I wouldnt go to ford city at midnight either.

anybody know anything aboot how much canada is getting eh
Mike @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
I havent seen anything here in Canada. I work at wal-mart and we dont even know a price yet let alone how many we are getting or how we are giving them out. Best buy and futureshop have a price tho with only 2 futureshops in all of canada opening for mid-night. Price is 399 and 499 as expected.

I know we are trying to gauge if there will be a shortage or not... How many xboxes did they launch with in 2001? Do we even have a ball park figure there?
OTAM @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
How the hell if can you find out how many your store is getting?
It involves actually calling the store then i'll pass because talking to someone on the phone at Bestbuy here is like trying to explain physics to an 8 year old.
C. Grant @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Philly area readers:
Philadelphia area stores premium/core:
South Philadelphia #898 has 32/10
"The Boulevard" #589 has 36/12
Plymouth Meeting #448 has 40/12
You'll have to go to store #1028 in Manhattan to get one at midnight, or just wait until February when they'll be everwhere! ;)
Matt @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
For clarification, the "real" shortage information came early in the first week of November. I work at EB, and our store heard about it on November 1st (3 weeks to the day of launch). We had a regional-wide (read: states' worth of EB managers) meeting, and our Regional Manager dropped the bomb about the shortages. We had 37 to pre-order (3 being core systems), and they told us we'd only get 18 (1 being a core system). From what we later learned, our shipping allotment of the big retailers was about 40,000 to be spread accross our US stores.
The Best Buy figure of just under 41,000 doesn't suprise me... the only difference being that they only have to divide that up among around one thousand stores, whereas we have to divide our quantity up amongst several thousand. We've been hearing rumors of Best Buy getting 50 for weeks now, and this just confirms that.
Lansing @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Does BestBuy accept pre-orders or at all those 360 given on a first come, first serve basis. Same question goes to walmart, target ect.
jeff @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
anyone know what time best buys are going to be opening?

Do you mean 3 AM, cause there is no way you seriusly could mean 3 PM the day before.
nicky @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
BestBuy apparently is recommending the use of "360 zones" for launch
HDTV -> games -> accessories -> Live -> checkout
109 @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
The last time I bought an Xbox, which was on launch day, I showed up at BestBuy like maybe 2 hours prior to opening, which I think was at 10am. There was a line outside, and I was #20. They handed out tickets and said the first 50 people would be guaranteed a unit.
Use the list above, see how many units are available, goto your local best buy and count the number of people waiting outside to determine your chances.
Good luck!
Julio @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
My store isn't on the list. Best Buy #791, Elizabethtown Ky, 40271
kagaku @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Wow, talk about luck. I litereally live three minutes away from Best Buy #311 (I went there a few days ago, and the clerk told me they'd be getting in only 50. Shows what they know, apparently. o.0)
J Marius @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Just to let you know expect fewer quantities at these stores. I used to work at store 417 and have spoken with former managers they are getting less than half of their requested amount of 50.
xXMexicanXx @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Yes! 138 pro for my Best Buy!
Dan Choi @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
"why is team xbox getting credit for the information i brought to the forefront ?"
Hey, dopeboyfresh. We generally thank anybody who sends the tip in before linking to the final page, but I'll add you to the credits if it helps any. Thanks for the list of midnight-launch stores, though; I'll add that link to the post, too! It's much appreciated.
Joost Schuur @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
#119 is my local store (Costa Mesa, CA) and even though they're not on the list of 12 for midnight openings, they insist they're doing a midnight sale. The clerk tells me they're a 'lab' store, so they do more 'experimental' things.
The last time I spoke to them about launch allocations, they said 'less than 500'.
Me, I have the whole week off, and if my Software ETC pre-order falls through (pre-ordered early June, due to find out next week where I am on the list), I'm buying a camping chair and turning up to line up around noon to 3 PM.
Corey @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
I'll be @ store 311 as they are getting more than my local BB store 320. I'm about 30 minutes or less from store 311. I wouldn't be surprised if the BPD(Burbank Police Dept) will be there as well.
EK @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
I stopped in at the Local west Los Angeles BB and the guy said they were getting 500! I was like, "are you sure?" He was. I laughed. Then came home and read that they're getting 80.
Ha!
At least I'll know when to get out of my parked car and get in line!
Matt @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Does anyone know if you'd be able to wait in line, get a ticket (if you are within the right number, of course), and then come back later to actually buy the system? I gotta work, so if I could get my ticket at 8 and come back during my lunch or somethin, it would be nice. I know I'm probably not gonna get an answer, but I figured it was worth a shot... anyone?
Matt @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Matt: I doubt it. Also, I highly doubt any EB will be getting 500... even 50 seems like a very large stretch.
ZeroCorpse @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
To be fair to Best Buy employees (I am one, after all) we're not encouraged to tell the actual numbers we're getting. It's considered confidential information, and so if we say "we don't know" or "Anywhere from 30 to 60" what we mean is "I can't tell you exactly how many because I'm probably not allowed to."
We know what we're getting, but we're not really cleared to make it public knowledge at this point. It might cause problems.
Nick @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
The Bellevue Washington store gets 200 Premium and 66 Core units. That's what living in Bill Gates' neighborhood gets you I guess.
Nick
joseph @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Living in Bill's backyard also means you have to compete with 35,000 softies. i dont think 200 units is that great of a deal nick
Brian @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Sweet, one of the stores near me is getting 168 of them!
Evil D @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
The advantage of living in Minneapolis: No one is going to wait overnight in 30 degree weather for a console. Heck, the 10-day forcast is predicing the overnight low for the 22nd to be 27 degrees.
I'll show up a few hours before the store opens. I won't get out of my truck until the line is larger than 10 people. :)
jfindon @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
How the hell do you get the info now that the forum isn't there? I get that error every time I click the link.
besmircher @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
Just so that you guys are aware, these numbers are technically estimates. We SHOULD be getting this number, but the actual shipping number could vary. We won't know without looking at our purchase order, and it'd still be uncertain until we actually have the product in our warehouses.
Dan Choi @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
You're right, jfindon. The original Xbox.com forum post appears to have been moved or hidden/deleted (which would make sense, given that it's an official Microsoft forum). For now, I'll switch the links back to the "original" thread on the TeamXbox forums. Sorry, dopeboyfresh!

I was wondering what time you guys think is a good time to get to best buy? I'm going to the store in Burbank, IL which is also a midnight store. I get off of work at 4pm you think i should go on Monday after work? Or should I just take the day off? I really want one. Your advice is welcome. Thanks.
Arun Kumar @ Dec 18th 2005 9:37PM
We are getting 50 some units, not too sure about the split between the core package and the bundle package.
