No early Xbox 360s after all: official Circuit City clarification

Circuit City's PR managers have responded to our request for clarification on the confusing language on the Circuit City website. Here's the real deal:

Circuit City will begin selling a limited supply of Xbox 360 bundles on www.circuitcity.com beginning 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 2005. These units will ship on 11/21/2005; customers who opt to pay extra for next-day delivery can do so to get their Xbox in their homes on 11/22/2005.

We are not selling them earlier in our stores; I apologize for the misinformation you received from the call center. We will have Xbox 360 units for sale in all Circuit City stores nationwide beginning 10 a.m. local time on 11/22/2005. They are first-come, first-served as we did not allow any preorders.

Crap. I really wanted to play it this weekend. Next week is Thanksgiving, with its requisite travel, family time, and general lack of video gaming.

That is a load of crap, I called 2 Circuit City stores in my area (Chicago) and they both confirmed they will be selling units on Friday at 2pm.

They even detailed the packages they will be selling and everything. Call them if you like, I called the Elston Av store and the W North Av store. BOTH said they would be selling units on Friday.

They may be SELLING them, but will they be giving you the boxes at that time? CC is being tricksy.

Well Ill still preorder from them if im going to be on second shipment from Gamestop. Whom ever gets the system in my hands first will make the sale. Im really Ticked at Gamestop and EB Games for messing up the preorders so much. Dont take a preorder until you know how many you are goig to have.

Maybe those sweet PR reps at the 800 number weren't so right after all...

Ok I just called my CC back again. They confirmed they're just taking PAYMENTS at 2pm on Friday, and you'll get a confirmed unit on launch day with no line or waiting etc.

Sounds like a good option for those not wanting to line up at Wal Mat etc.

Would we be able to return the games that come with the bundles and get other games we might actually want rather than having 2 friggin racing games? Seriously... 2 racing games in a bundle? What was the logic? The only logic I can think of is that it will force people to buy games they don't want.

Number1: "How can we make sure and sell as many games as possible?"
Number2: "I have an idea... we'll force people who want to guarantee a system on launch day to buy TWO racing games!"

and now the debate, do I preorder a bundle that is overpriced friday, or wait and pray for one on tuesday. Im still waiting to see how many my cc is getting since i know my bb has 34 premium coming in. Plus I can grab my gf's circuit card and run it up online

so what is the real deal here. can we preorder at the store? how do we do that? Would be nice to have someone who has no idea what is going on and sneak out of the store with it.

Just thought I'd chime in...local CC really don't have much of a clue. I actually brought it to their attention and they had to call me back. they told me they would sell vouchers on the 18th, and when i asked how many they were getting, they said they wouldn't know until sat or sun???? sounds like they're setting themselves up for the same thing EB and gamestop already did!

Can someone explain to me how the $740 Platinum bundle contains $710 worth of merchandise? Are they counting the universal remote as an item, cause that's part of the $400 system cost. Retards.

The universal remote is NOT the one that comes with the console. The remote that comes with console is a smaller than the universal remote and does not have a number pad and I believe it is not an actual universal remote either.

How much you wanna bet some consoles do get sold early because of all the confusion.
