Author Heather Chaplin's been busy since we last
blogged about her. When she wasn't writing
interesting character studies for
the New York Times about CliffyB, she took time to sit down with Video Game Media Watch for an interview about she and
her husband's new book, Smartbomb.
VGMWatch conducts a lengthy and thoughtful interview about gaming and what
attracted her to it. Over the course of four years she interviewed gaming luminaries like Wil Wright saying, "I
found Wil and many others who you would think would be too "important" to bother incredibly available." She also
discusses many of the books she cites extensively like the self-published
Phoenix: The Fall & Rise of Videogames calling it "truly the
bible of videogame history."
VGMWatch also reviews the book concluding, "Smartbomb presents a largely
unfiltered view of the state of the industry that demands to be taken seriously. For this reason alone it's a must-read
for anyone interested in the world's next dominant entertainment medium."
She's been promoting the book at readings around the country and are
in Austin tonight with Richard Garriott, Durham tomorrow night with CliffyB, and Baltimore on Thursday with Sid
Meier. This would be great to meet some gaming legends and hear a reading about the industry that created
them.
