Evidence that Sony's latest PSP firmware upgrade, version 2.5, has been exploited is currently trickling onto PSP
forums. Downgrading is not yet possible, but the latest EBOOT successfully bypasses the TIF patch. In other words,
score one for the hacker homebrew community.

This is EXCITING! I've had more fun with my 1.5 PSP than I have with 2.0 and GTA. At least now there's a chance when another good game comes out, and Im forced to upgrade to 2.5 I can get back. I love ScummVM!

So I'm guessing the 2.51 firmware will be released next week.
And this pointless war continues...

Why is Sony trying to stop this? Are they selling PSPs at a loss and hoping to recoup the money through software sales like with the Xbox and PS2? Maybe when the hardware gets cheaper and they can sell PSPs for more than it takes to make them, then they won't care about this.

NO NO NO!!! This is FALSE NEWS!!! I am a moderator on a psp hacking forum, and this is total bs. All this "exploit" does is crash the psp due to its OWN protections. It is NOT possible to launch an eboot using this, therefore it is not a hack, it is a crash. This "story" is floating around all the psp sites and its total and complete bull. The "author" even claims he's working on getting 2.0 games like gta to work on a 1.5 natively, yet he has virtually no, if any, coding experience. Everyone, welcome the new yoshiro.

I'm enjoying GTA too much to care about about homebrew tbh. And come on, no games?! There's a ton of good PSP games out these days... It's just they're more 'PS2-fun' than 'innovative-DS' fun.

#14.; you're wrong. The thing you download is just a file that makes it crash.
It's been oft-discussed and there isn't a way to make this into an exploit.
i.e. If I wanted to steal your car, and I just used a shotgun on your engine. The car crashes, but I still can't drive away in it. This exploit is the shotgun. This is a METAPHOR.

Eh, I could care less about playing retro games on the latest firmware. I've tried it and yah, it's fun, but I bought the PSP for the new games, not the old ones I can play on my PC. I'm getting in some serious PSP gaming with GTA, NFS:MW, Burnout, Virtua Tennis and more... glad I can now say too many games, so little time (on my PSP!).
