Yay for being able to take 1 player games to other peoples houses

Not a Sony hater, but you have to admit... some of their best titles for the system are 1 player only... Nintendo is really the only one who supports "sit in 1 room together multiplayer" (which I greatly prefer to online play)

Still, selling used games is important when you dont rent games first to know they suck or not before dropping 60-80 bucks on a title you end up selling for 30 ^^

Entirely true.

Microsoft claims to, but they neuter the games in an attempt to get you to use Live. And then Live either doesn't support more than 2 players in one room, or aggravates you in doing so.

Which is why I'll always buy a Nintendo system. Online is tedious. All in the same room is necessary.

Nushio that is ridiculous, there is no announced price... how can you hate something for no announced price?

Furthermore, the controller will probably be revamped, but at least they tried to make a new design without leaving their backwards compatability in the dust (since they do rely on BC alot)

The PS3 has its losing edges, Hideo Kojima is appealed to Nintendo, Square Enix showing massive support for the DS might be a sign of their console of choice, the high development fees, etcetera

The difference is, while Nintendo might steal back some share, the PS3 and Xbox 360 are doing the exact opposite this round, Xbox 360 = weaker system and PS3 = mightier system... but the odds didnt turn out for the mightier system this gen... lets hope PS3 gets some good titles for it to be worth buying (since next gen DVD... bah... I am still working on THIS gen DVD...)

"Still not gonna buy a PS3. Price/Controller are the problems (Price mainly)"
---There is no price yet. From what I've read, people are speculating that they vamped up it being expensive so X360 could launch at $400 and feel safe, setting the trend for Sony to do 350-450 without seeming too expensive. The controller does suck ass though. They admitted it was a prototype design, it'll probably change.

Single player games on consoles are the reason I play consoles. If I want multiplayer I go on my PC where I got voice chat and a keyboard and connect directly to my friends for a game of Warhammer 40k. I play consoles to "disconnect" from the network of humanity. No cell phones, no IMs, no phone calls. Just me, my PS2, and a few RPGs to run through. Can't wait to pick up Magna Carta and Dragon Quest VIII today. Legend of Heroes on PSP would be nice as well.

If you really think about it, the PS3 will most likely have prettier graphics than the 360. When talking about computer technology a year is a long time. Technology advances very quickly. It won't take long before you see the PC having better graphics than the 360. I am not a fanboy. I like both systems.

How can you pinpoint price as a reason for not wanting a PS3 when the price hasn't even been announced? Even the final controller design hasn't been revealed, so that argument really isn't valid either. Sorry, those things just bug me.

As far as the multiplayer topic that got started somehow in this thread... I like both sitting in a room with everyone and playing online. The best multiplayer experiences I've had come from when myself and others got together in the same room and then all played together against others online. In other words, I think being able to both play online with no one else in the room, and being able to play with 3 or 4 people on the same console are very important. The latter is what really excites me about the PS3. No one has really expanded on the point that the two HDMI outputs can be used for multiplayer. How great would it be to finally shed the split-screen thing? Even if you still have the traditional split screen, using two diplays and the available Bluetooth and USB ports, you could have 8 people playing a FPS deathmatch off the same console.

Christ, what Sony did is no worse than what many do, the tech savvy people will have their CDs ripped in no time at all, they know it...

Let me ask you something, you pay millions into musicians recording contracts, they release a CD, you want to earn money on that CD, you dont want people stealing it

(albeit I think itunes is BS and would die before using an ipod, I rip my CDs and use a Sony mp3 player while playing my Nintendo DS ^^)

I'd believe you on the price if games were 80 dollars a piece, not just the console. I mean, assuming we already know which will have more and better games, it would be silly to diss the console with most games just because it costs 100 bucks more. Yet, if the games do cost 80 dollars, there are too few games, it is not user friendly, etc. I sure wouldn't (if I wasn't a hardcore gamer).

On the controller, everyone thinks it's pretty big when in fact it isn't (assuming that the person grabbing it isn't a giant)

http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3043

In fact, if it had two analogue buttons like 360, I think it would be a better one. On a personal note, I don't like the 360 controller's shape anyway.

I still have nightmares of having to register my game with every ps3 I plug it into.

I can't believe everyone is so willing to declare it a closed subject after the rootkit fiasco.

What a dumb rumor. How exactly would such a system work? Would it upload a blueray disc identification number to Sony's master database and say "Only this system can play this game"? So every game would need to check online to see if the system id and disc id matched up? So you'd have to buy a new set of games if you got a new system? Right.

We don't know the price or the controller yet, so who knows about PS3. If it's a lot of money, they will have to justify it to potential buyers, won't they? So they are confident that the PS3 will blow everyone out of the water and the price will be high, or it will be what we expect (a little better than 360?) and the price will be reasonable. I don't believe the whole "the hardware is expensive, so PS3 will be expensive!" They still need to sell systems. If it's pretty much identical to the 360 as most people think, then why would they sell the PS3 for $800? It's only going to be $800 if it's worth that much money to potential buyers. Sony has more money to throw around than MS does. They will take as much loss as nessesary to try to kill lthe 360.

Damn Jake, you must be rich to pointlessly have two HDTV's sporting 1080p sitting in your room just for gaming purposes...what a waste of money. I mean, it's a great idea for those gaming tournaments and what not but it just isn't very practical to lose money on the inclusion of not ONE but TWO HDMI's on the PS3.
Halo 2 already sported 2 player online capabilities not to mention that with the upgrade of the XB360 providing a VERTICAL split on HDTVs as oppose to HORIZONTAL, so, it's already been done...I'm not knocking SONY cuz I don't own an XBOX myself but it's not really big news---NOT TO MENTION THIS IS COMPLETELY OFF THE TOPIC OF THIS POST.

It's pretty obvious that the majority of Sony's game library caters to the single player connectivity experience, and you will see this trend continue to grow-ESPECIALLY with XB360 tooting LIVE and PS3 game trailers all being SINGLE PLAYER intended experiences. With the promise of ONLINE play, no one really needs friends to physically be at home anymore to enjoy multiplayer games, this has all been forseen with the coming of the internet anyway. I mean honestly, if you live in Manhattan you don't even need to leave your house to get the things you need anymore. It's kind of cool and sad at the same time...

These people complaining of DRM... Laughable. Don't buy any console next gen if you are so concerned about DRM. This is the future. DRM up your ass. Don't buy any new versions of Microsoft Windows either. Vista will take DRM on your personal computer to a whole new level. I can handle DRM on my console. Who cares. You put the game in and pick up the controller. What's the problem? But the operating system is a whole other story. Sony won't NEED to install a rootkit if you are running Vista. The OS will handle raping your rights and your privacy. So please stop being so ignorant. Switch to free software completely (as in cost and as in freedom), or deal with it. The last place I would be worried about DRM is a damned video game console. But don't worry- You'll be able to play pirated games on all consoles eventually. It might just take a while longer.

I just have to say this. I am neither a Sony nor a MS fanboy and find the term flamewar to be derogatory.

Sony wants to monopolise the world and in doing so has no regard for the common consumer and in fact depending on how well their EULA is written they WILL go bankrupt.

Movie studies like MGM and Columbia, Sony BMG, TV's stereos, computers all with proprietary memory cards. Whats going to surface next hmm ??? SONY TV'S WONT PLAY Xbox ? Vaoi's runnning Lunux because MS will refuse to grabt licenses.

I expect some big announcement in the next few days from Sony to counteract 360 bandwagon. In fact the Drm fiasco couldnt have cpme at a worse time for Sony.

Not one red cent will they get from my wallet as long as I live.

Oh

And Stealth is out on DVD today. Be careful about putting it near your computer !

Daver...you were completely alright with me until that last comment.

Sony BMG went ahead and decided to be a little too PROACTIVE in the war against MUSIC PIRATING. They fouled out, and are now offering refunds to everyone who has purchased a CD from SONY BMG's vast library, SONY BMG's losses will total in the millions. Do you think the PLAYSTATION, and ELECTRONIC DIVISIONS give a crap about that? Once again, SONY is a unstructed mess right now. Howard Stringer admitted himself that each division was at WAR with each other trying to make more money than the other.
AND TO CALL SONY A MONOPOLY WHEN MICROSOFT WAS IN COURT PRETTY MUCH THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE LAST DECADE FOR THE SAME REASON is ridiculous.
Admit it, read your lost comment and just tell yourself, "Oops, why did I write that?"
