"This was obvious, sony isnt stupid enough to that."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! OMG... that was classic. Sony isn't stupid enough... *whew*. That was great. You got any more hillarious jokes like that up your sleeve?

Wow... Sony isn't stupid enough. Kinda like how they aren't stupid enough to plant rootkits on users computer systems to protect against copyright infringement... while infringing on GPL/LGPL software licenses. :')

Oh, that was great.

No the monopoly comment...and it's not like SONY is making much money on their VAIO system anyway--the VAIO is Sony's attempt to make a PC look at pretty and cool as a MAC. You want STYLE you go to Sony right, but see we all know their Computers and even their TVs are kinda CRAPTASTIC these days...HENCE the reorganization of SONY...

Who the hell cares about Stealth...LOL

I think slashbunny is comparing Sony using yen to Microsoft using dollars. MS has much more cash in reserve than Sony, that is the important thing. Sony is in a very weak posistion finacially. Unless you were a fanboy it is not a good company to invest in. They can't afford to take as big of a loss as MS.

On the DRM issue, there is nothing illegal about putting a CD on your iPod. SONY decided there was, which is fine, except they did not inform the consumer. People buying these CDs assumed two things:

1) They were getting everything they get from a non Sony cd.

2) The CD would do no more harm to their pc than any other CD.

Unfortunately the consumer was wrong on both assumptions.

By any stretch of the imagination SONY is in serious trouble. There market share in TV's and stereos and MP'3 players has been eroded to nothing and their major cash cow - THe PS2 is at the end of its life and MS is a serious competitor this time around. They have a pretty cool machine already in the marketplace with an excellent online service ( which is not neccessary but very important for marketing purposes )and they are still months away with their own beast.

120 fps is a joke.
1080P is a joke.
Kutaragi is a fat joke.
and Stringer is just a hatchet man because the Japanese are too chicken and couldnt let a japanese person sack 10 000 human beings.

Long live Iwata and MCL. At least they have a direction.

Daver, I don't want to sound like a little fan boy...
But PS2 has an installed base of over 90 million. Subtract the people who have had to buy one or two new PS2s because of breakdown(INCLUDING ME) and that's still a pretty large number man.
XBOX = 20 million.

If you're going to SUGGEST, that SONY is going to CRASH and BURN during this Generation War you are MISTAKEN. You are exaggerating to an extent that is RETARDED.
And Sony isn't the only one tooting 1080p buddy. 1080p is going into mass market NEXT year, the seventh generation of HDTV will start penetrating the consumer market in 2006, when the PS3 comes out...so uhm, whether ya like it or not 1080p won't be much of a joke when you decide to put a downpayment on it when it becomes affordable, because HDTV will be a standard on almost every continent by the end of this decade. Come on Daver, think a little bit.

I agree with nushio, some of the comments point at the fact that the price hasnīt been revealed yet but mind you remember that it was sony themselves that revealed the fact that the ps3 would be quite expensive, some posts jump at nushio, when based on what sony said, he doesn't wnat to buy a PS3, but no one seems to be bothered by Christopher7xii and nick comments, when they write dased on nothing but fantasy that it'll cost around 400 bucks. About the controller not being the definitive design, I don't know why then they show it to the world in E3, if we can't have an opinion on its look. It's easy to say " don't bash the controller because, it wonīt look like that in the end", if people weren't bashing it, sony wouldnīt change the design.
I also agree with BXJoseff, not everybody in the states has a HDTV and less has 2 HDTV, not speaking about the rest of the world where HD format is less than inexistant(except for japan). Add to that the fact that it would mean the PS3 having truly awsome power to run HD game on 2 HDTV, most specialists agree that this a real gimmick feature, that maybe 2 or 3 games will use, at the cost of low poly and low rez, so!!!

Also the people assuming the ps3 will be significantly more powerful than the xbox360 should watch this 1up vid (middle of the page) for an interesting quote made by hideo kojima concering the mgs4 'real time' vid at TGS:

daver u are retarted. yes sony exoects a loss of 86 or so million dollers, but hey dumbass, 86 mill. o wait, i remember a certian company called microsoft losing 5 BILLION on the xbox alone..hmmm. to a huge company like sony that is apsolutly nothing. Acclaim was facing losses of 50 60 and 70 mill. a year, and they ONLY make games.

how the fuck is 1080p a joke? are u upset because the 360 can only push 1080i? go cry me a river. hell, toshiba demonstraded the cell processor by itself could simultaniously produce 26 1080p outputs at 40 fps. so i dont think the ps3 will have any trouble at all of doing it, even at 120fps.(not that that matters considering the human eye can only process a max of about 70 fps anyway...)

petey - if u read my post fully u would see that i never said it was true, but from an overwhelming amount of analysts saying sony plans to sell it at 400 bucks at a huge loss it is very believable.

also, you seem to think that i was attacking him. if u read my whole post u can see i said "not saying you should change your mind...ect."

actually i watched the x360 video to listen for the commentary from hideo kojima. to save everyone a bunch of time, two of the xbox editors for egm are sitting around reflecting on their x360 hardware experiences.

hideo kojima is NOT in the clip. its basically the two xbox editors talking about how a friend of theirs was talking to kojima "the other day", and he said that he could have made his mgs4 presentation on the x360 as well. he didnt bother to try though.

if that were the case however, wouldnt that tale be in print somewhere though? its pure speculation and word of mouth for now. no big deal.

the rest of the clip has the two guys going on and on about the x360 hardware and how and why they are biased against sony products.

personally i dont doubt that the x360 will be capable of running mgs4. afterall, some of this generations best looking titles run on both platforms despite an obvious differentiation in power between the two. however, for now the fact remains that mgs4 is not even announced on the x360 yet.

Re. MGS4 etc. This is a "he said she said" situation, but assuming he said he could have done the MGS4 presentation on X360, it carries no implication about how the systems stack up in terms of power. There's no mention that he said he could do it without compromise - even when devs do say things like that, it's not always true e.g. John Carmack's claim that they could do Doom3 on Xbox with full graphics fidelity.

All of that, I wouldn't surprised if X360 could handle the MGS4 demo, give or take a few things perhaps. It was, afterall, running on unfinished PS3 hardware, and it's an early title - although its the best demonstration of PS3's power thusfar, it's not pushing it to the max by any means.

Well, in other ways, I think that they may have "should" have this measure, but not like that plan they have had.

Indeed, locking people out of used games may be a necessary step. Let's face it. I want to keep the games I purchased for later use. Therefore, I can still have all my PS1 and PS2 games, including Final Fantasy VII, Dragon Warrior VII, Resident Evil, Grandia, and others from the past. But the way this would work is that people would go out and buy the console, register the owner of the console to Sony, and write your ID on the console. From there, when you purchase the game, the DRM system writes your ID on the disk saying that you are the purchaser of the game. The ID is not written on the console, which saves up memory space, but will have a memory code. If you try to steal someone else's game away, or if you are giving that game away to a friend, then the DRM system won't allow you to do that.

However, many claim that the games won't work anymore if your system breaks and you have to buy a new one. To solve this issue, this ID system will be the same if you buy a second console. Because the ID on the game disk has your name on it and you bought the second console, it will be compatible with the new console.

On top of that, because of this security, you are allowed to make personal copies of the game you have purchased, whether it's for backup, personal use, or if you are copying the game to your portable system. This DRM system is basically not on a disc-to-console bases, but to a disc-to-consumer bases.

And the benefits to this security is that it allows super distribution...in which a user makes a copy of a game and gives it to a friend and the consumer pays a royalty fee to the game publisher for every copies to give to friend the consumer. However, making personal copies of the disk (such as ripping the PS3 game disk and beaming it to multiple PS3s the consumer owns (in case he/she invites a group of friends over), making disc-to-disc backups or copying a game and putting it on a PSP) will be free of charge.

Super Distribution is when a consumer makes copies of video games and gives them to friends while the consumer pays any royalty fees to the copyright owner.

After all, I think that the next Playstation after the PS3 (persumably the PS4), will all be digitally downloaded or streamed, as space blossums and you will store all your games digitally on your home server.

Some commenters above have asked about the source of the PS3 DRM rumor and even speculated that it was started by an XBOX 360 fanboy.

In reality, the "rumor" was started by Sony itself when it applied for a PATENT that describes in perfect detail how they plan to prevent the "unauthorized" sharing, trading, and re-sale and used games. The patent describes how the game console will burn the console's serial number onto a game disc the first time it is played; from that time forward, that game disc will only work on that console.

You won't be able to trade with your friends or even take a disc over to a friend's house to play it. You won't be able to sell your used discs or buy anyone else's used discs, because they will only work on the first console in which they were played. If your console is stolen or breaks and you have to replace it, you will also have to replace your games.

Read the patent for yourself -- it is available for all to see on the US Patent and Trade Offices' website. A link can be found at the Groklaw website for those unfamiliar with searching for things on the USPTO website. Now why would Sony apply for such a patent if they didn't intend to use it? And can anyone believe what their spokesmen say after the music CD rootkit malware/spyware fiasco? If you believe anything they say, you're living in a dreamworld.

One game - one console is Sony's vision of the future. They want to squeeze as much profit as possible out of their loyal customers. Get used to it, sheep.
