AT last, I said this from the start. That demo had piss poor textures and very low polygon models, of course it could run on a Xbox 360, idiots. I bet he will say next, "..but on the PS3 it will run at 120fps, unlike the 360 running it at 110fps. Thats the Playstation magic."

Kojima should just open the game up and make it multi-format. Rev,360 and PS3. Stop just sucking up to Kutaragi.

I am pleased that he was willing to state that, although I think many of us already realized that (well, save for some diehard Sony fans living in denial).

What this really translates to is that like the console wars behind us- its all about the games. I think we'll be pleased with the selection.

Much like you have to respect that M$ is usually as effective as the Borg at assimilating technology under their control, Sony is a master of marketing.

This isn't to say that neither system will rock, I think they both will be good. But man is the PR battle ugly at times.

To the (well-pocketed) gamer go the spoils...

EXACTLY!!! I’m sick and tired of people saying that one is better than the other. The only thing that they are basing it off of is what Sony & MS is saying. Haven't you people learned not to trust them yet? If not go play some new Sony music CD's on your computer loaded with Windows.

Don't buy the hype folks. This next generation is just one big pissing contest after all.

Don't write off Nintendo either. They have a habit of downplaying their specs - almost to the point that people rather expect the GameCube to burst into flames after 15 minutes of running RE4.

just how Splinter Cell runs on the PS2, MGS4 can run on the 360. Just have to remove and downgrade some things but you can still play it.

Okay, great. Konami can do MGS4 on the 360. The only question is WILL they. Oh please, oh please, oh please.

This is cool news because watching the MGS4 trailer actually made me think about the wisdom of reserving my 360.

The only thing that makes me question it now is whether or not stupid Gamestop will have one for me.

#16 Are you joking? lol MS does not need to downgrade. 360 is only using one core at the time. I bet you that the 360 can run that demo on one core without the need to downgrade. See everytime you sony fanboys see that the 360 is comparable to PS3 you have to make yourselves feel better by degrading the 360.

I'd just like to point out that the MGS4 Demo was done on a dev PS3. We're months away from the final hardware. I'm not completely shooting down the possibility of running MGS4 on an XBox360 but saying a beta kit PS3 demo (or was it alpha, I'm not sure) will run on an XBox360 is a little premature of saying which has better overall capability.

MGS2 also came out for the XBox (as Substance) and I recall reading how the weather effects (specifically during the Tanker portion of the game) ran better on the PS2 than they did on the XBox because of the way the algorithms were implemented.

I'd buy whatever system the series continues on personally. MGS is the best series in the history of gaming in my opinion. The only thing that makes me cringe is the thought of MGS on XBox360 with the whole purchasing extras structure that Microsoft wants to do. I'd hate buying extra camo or weapons after buying the game itself. I hope that scares Hideo away as much as it freaks me out.

The rain algorithm issue apparently had little to do with the machine's capabilities and everything to do with developer laziness, according to ign:

"Even though the framerate stays buttery smooth throughout most of the game, there are some instances of extreme slowdown, most noticeable during the outside raining scenes on the tanker level. It doesn't occur very often, and almost never affects gameplay, but it is there. Oddly, it seemed to happen most when there wasn't anything really happening onscreen. Just the rain. In fact, the rain is exactly what is causing the slowdown. When Kojima and company created the tanker level, they first created the entire scene, then added filters, like the rain and mist, on top of it to create the impressive weather effects. Because the game was originally made and optimized for the PS2, which has a very unique hardware configuration, the game ran at 60 fps with no hiccups. Unfortunately, the algorithm used to create the weather effects did not translate too well when trying to implement it on the Xbox hardware, hence the slowdown. It probably would have been too much work to come up with and implement a new algorithm, and since it really doesn't affect gameplay, Konami may have felt it was good enough as is. So, practicality and not sloppy programming is responsible for the slowdown. Slowdown occurs in a few other places too, namely the boss fights, but it doesn't really make a difference."

All three consoles will be effectively the same, hardware-wise. If the developers know the platforms well enough, you get Resident Evil 4. If they don't, you get something less impressive.

It's nice to see that Finally a developer loyal to "one" system says the "other" system could have run it. I'll start my next gen gaming in a few days, and if PS3 and/or Revo gives me a reason to, I'll get their systems too. As far as i'm concerned, the differences in the system gfx between the 3 are not a determining fator on which system to buy or what order to buy them in. As long as I find a must have game (must have in my opinion) then I will buy the system that has it. Right now, X360 has RR6, DOA4 and it will have the new Treasure shooter. That's enough for me to get one, but that in no way implies that I won't get the other 2 once i see a must buy on their systems.

In the end you will all realize (hopefully) that graphics don't matter, but the actual quality of gameplay will.

This is why PS2 won last gen's console war, because AND WE MUST ALL ADMIT IT TO OURSELVES, their video game library was amazing.

If Microsoft can stop spitting out FPS's and EA Games every other second and say hello to gaming ingenius such as Katamari Damacy, KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS and TRADITIONAL RPG's (no Elder Scrolls, you're not one of them) then god speed XBOX, may you trounce Sony's 90 million fan base.

Don't people get tired of these pissing contests? If you want the Xbox360 get it, if not then don't. Its that simple. I'm planning on geting a PS3 or Revo. Right now I'm happy with the PS2 games and I can wait another year or so. If your getting a Xbox 360 then enjoy it.

Who cares, I haven't seen anything from the Xbox 360 yet that will make me want to run out and buy one. Watched the demo yesterday at BB for NBA2k6 and I was unimpressed, didn't look that much different than current gen to me. Even looked at the PGR3 demo and still wasn't overwhelmed by the realism. The only one that really captured my attention was Call of Duty, and that was mainly due to the gameplay and how intense it is, still don't 1 game is enough to warrant a purchase yet, I'd like to get some time with the new Madden before I make a decision.

Then again, I am very happy just playing NFL2K5.

This site is sad. They never report news or even comment on legitamate news. Hideo Kojima never, ever stated that MGS4 could run on the XBOX360 (although it probably could run if things were downgraded a bit or just with a poorer framerate). Some journalist on a website claimed he heard from his brother's mother's cousin's stepsister that's apparently Kojima's mistress that Kojima said the MGS4 demo can run on XBOX360. This is heresay and NOT fact. There has been alot of FALSE heresay being reported as news about the PS3 lately, mostly from said XBOX360 fanboys.

Just give it up. If Kojima thought XBOX360 was the right platform to develop for he would have made MGS4 a multplatformer for it, but he obviously didn't. Take this 1up.com stuff with a grain of salt.

I like to lurk here, but I get sick of hearing the same statement (the one shown above). When it gets down to the facts, the ONLY people that know the true power of the systems is the developers. Since there are none on this site, i'd suggest relaxing.

Even the developers have agreed that the systems are pretty much the same power. They'll both be good at different things, so it's all about which games you want to play.

So sit back, STFU, and play games. That's what gaming is all about, isn't it?

That is all.

For all of you who say Sony has awesome marketing, just take a second and look at yourselves.

If Sony seriously had good marketing than I would hear more about a PS3 than a 360 in public.

If Sony seriously had good marketing than I would not see that ¾ or more of the comments are either against the PS3 or in favor of the 360, and this is not by any means an isolated incident.

Microsoft is undoubtedly the best at marketing, so much so that even though Sony hasn't started much of an official marketing strategy everyone "knows" that the PS3 is ungodly expensive, not much more powerful than the 360 (if any bit more powerful) and does not have as good of games as the 360. Whether or not those items are true or not is not the point here, it’s the fact that the majority believe this, which is what marketing is for at this stage.

So for the last time, don't say Sony is the best at marketing, because quite frankly they suck at it right now. I give credit to bd (formerly b) for bringing this up in a previous comment thread.

Obviously there is more 360 publicity because it was just released, whereas PS3 won't be for another year.

Sony has gone on record stating that the PS3 will "be expensive." As far as I was concerned I believed PS3 to be more powerful, and I still do seeing as how the source for this doesn't seem reliable at all.
