For christ sakes what is Microsofts problem?

We get games like Catwoman and Barbie and they say they still have to be their, but they cant emulate a few Japanese titles for them?

Are they idiots? The system isnt smaller or sleaker than the origional Xbox, considering the power supply isnt even IN it anymore...

They claim to want the Japanese market, but dick it over, obviously they just dont give a shit about the Japanese market and want to see their system fail over there.

If you miss a generation but titles appeal to you in the second generation it is nice to have backwards compatability, they dont give people that option they screw them over, good job microsoft, but dont bitch when you dont get the goddamn market...

(I am mad they do this after all their whining, not meaning to troll or be a fanboy, I am not even a sony fanboy dont worry ;) still, it is annoying to hear people bitch but not do anythign to help themselves)

Well, it's really hard to justify putting effort in BC when most consumers there (Japan) never really cared for the games.

Regardless, the BC list even in the US side is a joke.

I never really played old games on the PS2...with exception for Twisted Metal 2. I'm more likely to play Halo 2 though.

i suspect that only a tiny fraction of the games released in the US were actually released in Japan. even the newest Castlevania didn't get an xbox release in Japan. i imagine there were very few exclusives released in Japan that would be appealing, and i imagine that probably 99% of the people who'd buy a 360 have a PS2 and probably plan on keeping their PS2, which makes it a non-issue for the most part.

@LSSLAVE: if you read the interview or know even basics about emulation, that'll explain why games like Catwoman and Barbie work. it was probably purely accidental that they worked as i can't imagine either really taxed the system in any way.

also the japanese market is hardly getting dicked over anymore than normal, they get a cheaper price only one version of the console. they don't even have to pay for MS to send them the BC update discs. plus they're getting special games targetted specifically at them, that won't be released in other regions for quite some time if at all. i don't remember the first xbox launch but i'm guessing there weren't nearly as many, if any at all, for that launch.

I agree with you there MGJ, but think of it this way, they failed in Japan once, it is NOT going to help them have a chance to do so when they give them a total 12 titles backward compatable, that is an insult if anything, might aswell not offer backward compatable at all.

Keep in mind, someone takes this as an insult and they lose a sale, many people take this as an insult they lose many sales, many people look at it 'Company that can barely support its last system, why support this one'

Plus their fans they have already are getting the shaft, which will NOT result in good things for them, loyalties could be lost from the already fans of Xbox with this who want to play their Xbox games on their 360 (no matter what people say, I use BC

Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy Tactics
Castlevania Symphony of the Night

I replay regularly, I also have my SNES hooked up for Final Fantasy III (VI JP) and II (IV JP) and MQ (FFA JP) and Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger

2 of them will be available for GBA, and Chrono Trigger is all but guaranteed for revolution download, lets hope the other 2 are (Secret of Mana online play, audio channels fixed, nothing else changed... oh god that would be awesome)

LSSLAVE - You have some good points, but the same can be said about any system. I'm insulted that newest PS2 can't even play every PS2 game, and that the GameCube cut progressive scan support. Sony spokespeople have already said they don't know if every game will be 100% compatible on the PS3, is that an insult?

It's way too early to make calls on what the future of next gen systems hold.

Another reason why XBOX360 will flop in japan.

I've played all the Final Fantasy PS1 games on the PS2, so it is very important.

This reminds me of an idiot that was saying "PS2 DOSNT HAVE 13000 GAMES, IT HAS 3000 GAMES LOLZ". Well, it just happens that even when the 13,000 games in PS2 repeat themselves on regions, just like Xboxes; that many games have to be enabled for backwards compatibility on 360. Why you say? Language, REGION CODING, etcetera. I rest my case on 99% compatibility against 10% or so.

This is the exact lazyness that will make either the PS3 or the Rev the winner in Japan. It doesn't matter if the games sold well or not. If I lived in Japan, and only 12 Xbox 1 games would be playable, I would think "Wow. Microsoft really doesn't care about its customers. There's no way I'm going to buy a 360."

Of course, I already know that Microsoft doesn't care about its customers, and that's why it's Nintendo for me. But seriously, 12 games? I guess that's what we expect from all M$ product upgrades; Twice the features, quadruple that bugs.

Whaaaat?... no support for N.U.D.E.?
Given the tiny sales levels of most xbox games in Japan-I seem to remember a few months when sales of dreamcast titles, although a long dead system, outnumbered xbox title sales- this isn't that surprising...the list covers most to the titles (except for the DOA series, and DOA exclusion is likely purposeful to promote DOA fans to upgrade to the 360) that actually had any decent sales in japan. Also I suspect that BC is less of an issue for the J market, since I think there are a far more hardware centric gamers (ie, they love their old systems and they hold on to them) than the US. I suspect there are more than a few folks that you'd have a hard time prying a Kasumi blue DOA ultimate LE xbox out of their hands even though they don't play it that much.

I am one of those people with the Kasumi Blue Xbox that dosn't play it much. But I think this is very sad of MS to do. There WERE some good titles here in Japan, and now if Japanese gamers want to play they, they have to keep that monster of the old Xbox and it's younger brother in often already crapmed conditions. Way to exclude those few die-hard people who supported you in the last generation.

Where are the DOA games? They were the only titles that sold even a few copies in Japan. DOA 3 is also a BC title in Europe and USA.
