We have
known about the PSP's upcoming Katamari Damacy
game, Boku no Watashi no Katamari Damacy, for awhile now. Today, however, Namco has officially announced
Me & My Katamari (the coherent english translation of the Japanese title) for release in US and Europe
sometime in 2006.
The PSP game will feature four-player wireless gaming and new customization options for the characters. This will be
very likely the last Katamari Damacy game made for some time, as creator Keita Takahashi has
vowed to leave the games industry and try his hand out at
playground design. If his games are any indication, the playgrounds will be very psychedelic and fun for all ages.
Me & My Katamari now official for US, Europe

Shibby... Although I wish they'd addressed the issue of the controls on the PSP being radically different than those of a PS2... Will have to find out when it is released I guess.

/PRAYS that the controls are good for the game.
After playing the beta of SOCOM on the PSP (which had HORRIBLE controls btw)...I sure hope they don't blow it with this game.

maybe it will be the last katamari damacy game, but not because the creator is leaving the field. he decided that he only has "about" ten more years of game design left in him before he retires and moves on to something like designing playgrounds. he has another decade ahead of him to design; that equates to what? like another two generations of hardware after the ps2 to design for.
it may just be the last katamari game however, but thats just because he doesnt like sequels, and never intended to create any.
it will be interesting to see what else he comes up with.

I wish I had a PSP just for this game. Hopefully this'll at least mean a new soundtrack, so I can enjoy the release without needing a PSP. ^-^

Seroth, you may want to check out previews for a game called Loco Roco; there may be two reasons to own a PSP for you.

No kidding...out of both systems, Katamari is better suited for the DS then the PSP. Take a look at Pac n Roll (or whatever it was called) as an example of how the games controls could work.

The PS2 Katamari games are clever, imaginative games that the whole family can enjoy without relying on excessive violence or other gimmicks. From the looks of the screens, Namco is on the right track to crafting a similarly enjoyable game on the pocket-sized PSP, where it can be experienced anywhere and anytime. The game should lend itself well to the handheld format, as you could plug away at a good round in the time frame of 10-20 minutes and still feel satisfied afterward.
This should be a wonderful handheld game!

...so b/c I'm not on my knees sucking Sony's d____ I'm flaming them right? Just I didn't like how a game controlled doesn't mean I'm bashing Sony.
You should learn the difference between "bashing" and "disliking" a game.

What's been officially anounced for the DS title? I don't have a PSP so I'm looking foward to a DS version (If there is one).

Keita Takahashi said he was never making another Katamari game after the first one. Namco said "Fine, we'll do it without you," and he reluctantly agreed to come back. Why should we believe this won't happen again? Or that Namco won't just push on with the franchise without him?
Also, I second Katamari DS. It's as close as we'll ever get to a trackball, which I maintain is the best possible controller for Katamari.

I doubt there is ever going to be a Katamari on the DS, for some reason. It's unfortunate, but why get your hopes up for something that will likely not happen?
