Peter Moore: 360 shortage is not a conspiracy
We here at Joystiq have been guilty of playing the role of
conspiracy theorists, questioning whether the apparent
Xbox 360 shortage this holiday season is actually a deliberate scheme to boost interest in the console. Granted, any
shortage could also be an inevitable side effect of launching a console simultaneously in three major regions of the
world (US, Japan, and Europe), but who are we to say Microsoft is not omnipotent?
Peter Moore has gone on the record today to say that there is no deliberate plot to spur demand via supposed Xbox 360
shortages. In his words, "I've seen all of the conspiracy theories. Somewhere in Roswell, New Mexico, we have a hangar
where we're stockpiling it, creating false shortages. No."
So, until we find that elusive hangar, Xbox 360's are still going to be a scarce commodity this holiday season. With
the US launch date only days away, only time will tell just how many units will truly be available.

That hangar is built over the landfill where the millions of ET Atari 2600 carts are buried.
george @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Maybe that's the hanger where Zero Hour is going on!
your enemies friends @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
me want honeycomb now!!!!!!!!
Balazs @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
No, no, no. They have a seperate hanger next to the zero hour hanger. When the people start arriving to the zero hour they will be escorted by a microsoft vp along the 360 hanger and the zero hour people can pick up their 360.
;)

Well if Peter Moore says so, then damn, I guess it's so... I mean, why would he not tell the truth right? He works for Microsoft afterall, we know their track record is free from deception and sleazy marketing tactics. I'm glad we can put this to rest now. Thanks Mr. Moore!

I have tickets to Zero Hour. Don't worry guys, I'll get to the bottom of this!
Wonderflex @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Yeah, seriously. Why on earth would Microsoft lie about it. If they say that it's true, then it must be true. I can only imagine that their diagnosis of games is about as true as Nintendo Power is about anything related to Mario, Zelda, or Donkey Kong.

tear tear sniff sniff tear...........man i just want my 360
Captin Cool @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
How does MS expect to be so successfull and beat the PS3 to the market if it cant even deliver on launch, soon the hype will die down and it will be after x mas and MS will have missed their chance.
Zachary @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Bill: "Hey Pete, you know I was just reading internet, and well, many blogs are on to us about the 360 shortage..."
Peter:"Let me handle this Bill. The kids, they love me, believe every word I say, who wouldn't listen to a guy with the Halo 2 launch tatted on his arm?"
Bill:"You're right Pete, thanks for taking care of this for us, let me buy you a beer."
Jago @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Peter Moore = full of $hit
Anything that guy says is pretty almost completely a lie. Just about every company (regardless of the industry) will purposly make shortage b/c it makes their product seem more appealing and sound as if it is selling so fast that they can't keep it on the shelves.
Wonderflex @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Peter: "That's a great idea. Once I'm sloshed maybe we can go and get another tatooo."
Bill: "Sounds like a plan. It saved Halo 2 for us last time. What do you think you should get this time around?"
Peter: "I was thinking a rum and a coke."
Sup Sailors? @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
no they're deliberately sending tiny shipments so they'll sell out fast and MS can get free advertising and publicity
"XBOX360 almost outsells PS2 for a week"
Jago @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
"XBOX360 almost outsells PS2 for a week"
That headline will pop up somewhere and then all the stupid biased fanboys will claim that 360 has completely surpassed the PS2.
Matt @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
"Ken Kutargi (or Shigeru Miyamoto) = full of $hit

Corrected.

Chris @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
You Playstation guys need help. Seriously.
Jago @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Ken Kuturagi...yea b/c he spits out some crazy stuff that makes no sense. I'm a big fan of the PS2 (kinda disappointed by the PSP...which I also own).
Why is Miyamoto full of shit? Give me a REALLY good example and not some fanboy response either.
OTAM @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Wow,you guys REALLY do have a hard time believing that there might be a real shortage don't you?
I mean,Microsoft isnt exactly a company with a clean track record, but then again what company is?
Wonderflex @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
Well for one, Microprose has a clean track record. Check them out:

Jago @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
lol...they're still around?
Wonderflex @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
They are a registered business still as of today, with a spotless track record. Now if only they would get to work and make us a brand new version of Falcon. Then I could use my Revo controller to fly it around.
Looking back I used to have Falcon 4.0 on my 120mhz Packard Bell (they kinda went south huh?). I was in 6th grade, and I remember it being a 3D game, so I'm not sure how my computer ran it. Or TIE-Fighter Wars for that matter.
Wonderflex @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
In fact Nintendo has a clean record too:
http://www.thebbb.org/commonreport.html?bid=502092
As does Sony:
http://www.bbbnewyork.org/businessreports/Default.aspx?id=446
...well, at least as far as the BBB is concerned.
Now Home Depot and Walmart on the other hand; yeah thats another matter all together.
Jago @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
HA! As much as I love Nintendo they are far from having a spotless record. Anyone remember the whole history of how the Playstation was supposed to be an SNES add-on?
Correct me if I am wrong but the BBB is a voluntary location where people can choose to report a company. If a comapny has a bad BBB rating it doesn't really mean much. Plus the place I bought my car from was really shady and they had a clean BBB record.
The BBB doesn't really mean much...
Wonderflex @ Dec 18th 2005 10:09PM
That's actually true. Positive records mean nothing; whilst a negative one does. If somebody is clean, that just means that any misdoings haven't been reported by consumers.
A negative score though is actually really hard to get. They have to fail to communicate, and solve the problem, by any means - IE: just blow you, and the BBB, off to get one.
I've negotiated quite a bit with various BBB and the National BBB, and it sucks to work with negative score companies and organizations.
