The results are in from the Today show's Toy Test 2005. After two weeks of voting at a special arcade in Seattle,
nearly 11,000 kids rated 2005's games after just 20 minutes of play. The games included were all Teen rated, and
non-violent—no shooting or stabbing. Despite that restriction, a
game centred around explosions and destruction has made it
to the top. Here's the list:
1. Burnout Revenge
2. Super Mario Strikers
3. Mario Superstar Baseball
4. Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix
5. EyeToy Play 2
6. The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
7. The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer
Burnout Revenge follows last year's winner,
Burnout 3, and is no surprise to anyone who's had
to wrench a screaming pre-teen away from an instore display pod. There's a heavy emphasis on
Mario and
Gamecube titles; rather than being tired of the franchise, kids seem to love
it.
So, a tip for game designers: name your game "Incredible Mario Explosion Frenzy", include a dance mat and an EyeToy camera, and kids will lap it up.
