Visualize this: Xbox 360's visualizer taken for a spin.
We took some trippy shots of 360's included HD music-visualization feature. We at Joystiq do not promote the use of hallucinogens, but could imagine our heads melting after seeing a triple-core PowerPC do a sort of interpretive dance to the 80's sound of New Order. Stay tuned this weekend as we explore iPod and PSP music integration. More trippy pictures after the jump.

We agreed this one hurt our brains, the test of any good visualization.
This one looks like an X; were not sure why thats important.
Clouds. Beautiful, fluffy, pink and teal rocking clouds.

this is another great feature of the xbox 360, lets see sony fanboy's, so fair Microsoft has:
-XBOX LIVE (ultimate online service)
-supperior controller (i dono but when i throw my controller on the ground o dont want it comeing baCK to me and hitting me in the face haha!!!!)
-supperior graphics (Ps3 will have graphics, but thats all it has, i dont see the online services nor do i see whats up about playing video games with a...bananna lol!! to be seriose though xbox 360 does have the cababilities to jack out picture quality graphics, let the devopers learn the system and there Dev kits a lil more )dont forget sony will have more time to develop games, we WILL see improved graphics, i mean its like 4 times more powerful then the xbox 1, and the xbox 1 has really nice graphics
-Microsoft also seems more determined, Sony can only brag about Graphics, Let microsoft rule the online generation, because not only is this going to be the H.D. era every company is talking about (except Nintendo) this is also the Generation when the world will connect with each other through an online service, so fair xbox live!
last thing!
-Sony might have blu-ray but thats going to be expensive to put on the system and overall it will take the system longer to have a price drop, if you are worried about if M.S will have enough disk space fear not because J Allard and many other gaming websites say in the future xbox 360 will come on 2 disks, yeah its easier to leave the one blu-ray disk in, but i think we can manage to get off our A$$es and put in disk 2 when we are half way or more through the game, plus the games on the 360 will load MUCK MUCH faster! (check out ign.com or gamespot.com if you want proof or want more info on the xbox 360)
all i have to say is i think its microsoft's turn to be the black-jack dealer in this round

iTunes has this before the Xbox 360 and before WMP

Graphics?
Read gamespot's reviews of the 360 games? Not impressed with the "next-gen" graphics for most games. Same with IGN, hell even CNN criticized the lack of a significant jump in quality.
Almost every other modern console launched historically has had a significant jump in image quality compared to the competition at launch.
NES -> SNES -> N64 -> Gamecube.
Master System -> Genesis -> Saturn -> Dreamcast.
PlayStation -> PS2.
Compare to Xbox-> Xbox360... where's the big difference?
That the Xbox 360 doesn't would be concerning the hell out of me if I were a direct investor.

The visualizer is by Jeff Minter. Anyone who has been into gaming since the 8-bit era should recognize the name immediately.

Blueman and any other retards:
trying to diss a system by using a system's music visualizer (the minorest of minor features) as a negative is one of the saddest things I have ever seen in my life.
even though a lot of 360 fanboys are stupid, I don't think they are biased enough to make fun of the PS3's music visualizer (or some feature of equal importance to Sony.
tools.
ZeroCorpse @ Dec 18th 2005 9:13PM
No significant jump in graphics power? Hmm. From what I've seen in all the reviews of Call of Duty 2, the reviewers are saying it's impressive as hell that the Xbox 360 can run the game at a steady 60fps without a hitch with every effect running full blast, while even the best PC with the best GPU struggles with the game, and doesn't look as good.
That's significant to me. It's also apparently significant to them since they mention it in their reviews.
CV @ Dec 18th 2005 9:13PM
The fact that it's high-definition is a big jump right there. It's doing more effects with many more pixels to push. They could pump out more effects with a lower resolution, but I think it's about time we bit the bullet and had our games in high-def. Anyway, I can see enough of a jump in the quality of graphics, and I think they'll continue to get more performance out of the system a lot longer than they were able to with the Xbox. A lot more room for growth this time around.
ruben @ Dec 18th 2005 9:13PM
hmmm zerocorpse CoD 2 better on 360? I think not and i have the proof

Blueman: iTunes can't even hope to compare to the 360's visualizer. Not even close.
MS has signed the most talanted and expierenced visual effects programer in the whole goddamned industry: Jeff Minter. This guy f!ng dreams in assembly. The entire size of this program is like 140Kb.
And the version of Neon that gets packed with 360 is only the beta. He's making another that will have higher access to system resources.
Frankly, this is the only reason to own an Xbox right now.
Killamajiger @ Dec 18th 2005 9:13PM
Ruben, two things: First, the screenshots you show are not of anywhere near the same thing (one winter, one france, and the soldiers arn't even the same for a little comparison), but I find that the 360 screenshot actually looks a little bit better because of all the smoke effects and the fine detail on the glove (and it is a higher-res pic). Also compare the price to run a pc at the 80fps (with the smoke) that the xbox is doing and I think it seems even better. Oh, and rock on no need for remote for DVD playback.
Psiven @ Dec 18th 2005 9:13PM
The Shizzlenit: I know we're in accord opinion-wise but consider the fact that this visualizer is the culmination of the programer's career before you call it the "minorest of minor features."
I don't know if most people know this but it is actually possible to "play" Neon with up to 4 people. Each person controls different aspects of the visualizer.
Ironically enough, the majority of Neon's development took place on the gamecube until Loinhead canned the game last spring. Fortunately Minter own's the IP to Neon so he can use it on 360 now.
Arch-360 @ Dec 18th 2005 9:13PM
LOL #6 JulioC. were already aware that the xbox kicked the shit out of every othe console graphically. that one was a gen and a half. so why dont you compare the 360 to PS2. THEN youll see one hell of a jump. compare PS3 to the xbox and you wont see any jump either. your suppose to compare ALL next gen consoles to weakest old gen console. in this case PS2.
tiesto81 @ Dec 18th 2005 9:13PM
I just love the fact that Jeff Minter works out of a little cottage and is a huge fan of sheep (which he has on his farmland). He's one eccentric dude.
Omega2k3 @ Dec 18th 2005 9:13PM
Killamajiger, your arguement was rediculous. First off, the two has a huge difference in graphics quality, and it's immediately identifiable that the PC is superior. Second, the smoke and glove that were more visually impressive were on the PC version, NOT the 360. Third, comparing the highest detailed models and textures in the game, the PC comes out miles ahead of the 360.
I'm not saying either really look -bad-, but the PC one looks way better. Really, the 360 version seems only just a bit better than the original CoD.
Omega2k3 @ Dec 18th 2005 9:13PM
I meant to say "have a huge difference" in the second sentence.
By the way, my MOM just totally confirmed that the 360 one looks a lot worse.

It's funny how there is this much amazment over a music visulizer (it is cool, though). Imagine what it could have been if Unity didn't get canned. I'm still mad about that.

Dear #6,
Winamp had this before Itunes, and it's still better.
